Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Programming & Wellness Director will successfully lead a team and plan, administer, and evaluate all wellness-related programming including youth fitness programs.  This position is primarily responsible for the design and implementation of the Geneva &'s health and wellness programs as well as the program and membership experience in accordance with the Geneva Family YMCA policies, procedures and standards.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Wellness Program Duties

  •  Maintain program areas and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe condition.  Report any irregularities to the Executive Director
  • Conduct multiple daily walk-throughs of program areas to ensure all fitness equipment is clean, safe and in working order and to engage with members.
  •  Keep an up to date inventory of all equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and manage a high performing staff focused on providing exceptional service and working well as a team.
  • Develop and integrate member-service and engagement strategies into all programs to ensure positive member recruitment and retention.
  •  Employ ‘Onboarding’ strategies with all new members as outlined by the Executive Director.
  • Schedule, monitor and conduct new member orientations and personal training consultation to ensure members have the knowledge, skills and support to achieve their wellness goals and meet their personal wants and needs.
  • Maintain the Geneva YMCA Trainers Corner Facebook Page, and post regularly to the Twitter and Instagram accounts with motivational encouragement, class offerings, fitness and nutrition tips, and Geneva Y information and events.   Posts should be made to each social media outlet at least once per day.
  • Works with Executive Director and other department heads to produce quarterly program guides.
  •   Monitor and adjust Group Exercise classes to ensure a comprehensive schedule is maintained that addresses the wants and needs of members at convenient times. 
  • Attend group exercise conventions annually to assess trends and maintain a fresh and exciting group exercise schedule for members
  •  Monitor and evaluate delivery and effectiveness of group exercise programs and staff for the highest possible level of quality
  • Monitor instructor training and certifications to ensure all are up to date in in compliance with the Geneva Y standards and requirements.
  • Develop and implement group exercise promotions and incentives annually
  • Inspect and evaluate group exercise equipment to ensure adequate quantities are in an orderly, clean and safe condition.  Report any needs or irregularities to the Executive Director.
  • Develop Group Exercise Mentor volunteer program to facilitate welcoming and introducing new members to classes creating a positive member experience and affecting member retention.
  • Schedule and offer Small Group Personal Training opportunities each session.
  •  Be visible to staff, members and program participants

Youth Fitness Duties

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards
  • Organizes and hosts season parties and events, promoting healthy eating and good nutrition.
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Additional Duties

  • Communicate program and facility information changes and needs in a timely manner to the Executive Director and Operations Director.
  • Respond to all member, program participant and community inquiries and concerns within 24 hours.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events as assigned by Executive Director
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum age of 21
  •  Minimum of two years’ experience in a fitness center setting with program development and management
  • Minimum of two years’ experience and proven success managing and developing staff and finances
  • At least one year of experience teaching group fitness classes preferred.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to work accurately at a fast pace
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  •   Possess an outgoing and friendly demeanor
  • Organization, planning and monitoring skills
  • Strong skills in hiring, training and supervising staff
  • Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the Geneva Y and its programs including evenings and weekends.

Required Certifications

  • Current personal training certification such as Foundations of Strength and Conditioning for the Y, ACE-CPT, NASM-CPT, ACSM-CPT, ACSM-EP-C, NSCA-CSCS, NSCA-CPT, or acquire within 90 days of hire.
  • National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction, or acquire within 90 days of hire
  • Current certifications CPR, AED, FA and O2 or acquire within 60 days of hire
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $40,000.00
