This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This person is responsible for the development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of all wellness center staff, wellness specialty programming and personal training. This person is also responsible for member engagement and retention.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implements membership strategies that support existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including listen first) in all interactions.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs fitness and PT personnel as well as volunteers when needed
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
  • Participates in the annual planning of the budget; manages and implements the approved budget for wellness and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Responsible for achieving personal training revenue goals for individual and small group training programs
  • Responsible for maintaining all fitness equipment and the cleanliness of the fitness center and personal training areas
  • Responsible for working with all vendors related to fitness and personal training equipment
  • Develops and leads the personal training staff members and provides an effective schedule for group training programs
  • Organizes wellness events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote healthy living.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the fundraising campaign.
  • Provides leadership to fitness/personal training meetings and participates in all other leadership staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  • Promotes coaching connections with new members and other wellness programs with existing members in efforts to sustain retention.
  • Works with Marketing Director and other key program directors like group exercise to ensure programs reach maximize enrollment.
  • Responsible for the wellness center including research, maintenance and new purchases to ensure state of the art wellness center.
  • Responsible for manager on duty shifts
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must possess a nationally recognized personal trainer certification.
  • Previous supervisory experience in exercise science, physical education or related field.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments 
  • of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $33,000.00 - $38,000.00
