The CCYMCA/Camp Huckins is seeking a dynamic individual to be a Program Assistant at our Camp in Freedom, NH. Our 90 year old summer camp for girls is rich in its traditions and program and we serve over1,400 girls each summer with a staff of 120.  The camp Program Assistant is responsible for coordinating all fall and spring programs.  This position supervises the Camp store operations during the summer and online twice annually and all aspects of our Fall Tri-ath-loon fundraiser.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Administer, coordinate, direct and develop the fall and spring programs for Camp Huckins. Work with outside group leaders to create and design programs which meet desired goals.  Promote and advertise new program ideas to use the facility in the shoulder seasons.
  • Coordinate programs with local schools to better serve youth in Carroll County (ropes course, teambuilding, overnight retreats, YMCA Youth & Government, etc.)
  • Oversee all aspects of the summer camp store, budget and clothing orders. Organize, develop and run online store twice annually.
  • Oversee and organize August Camp Tri-ath-loon, our biggest fund raiser for the Scholarship fund.
  • Familiar with ACA regulations and YMCA guidelines. Prepare for scheduled ACA accreditation visits (every 5 years).
  • Assist in the development and management of the annual budget.
  • Participate in ongoing YMCA professional training and advance in the certification process.
  • International Staff Coordinator – organize IS staff training, hiring and extended programming throughout the summer and fall.
  • Oversee all aspects of Camp yearbook including taking photos, all layout and design.
  • Work with a task force or committees of the board as needed.
  • Continually evaluate programs to ensure the highest quality program design and delivery. 
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Executive Director.
Educational Background: 
A 4 year degree from an accredited college or university
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience with the YMCA and/or demonstrated commitment to the YMCA mission and philosophy.
  • Experience should include program development and implementation; supervision and training; budgeting experience; team building and program evaluation.
  • Team Leader certification by the YMCA of the USA preferred or may be obtained within 18 months.
  • Administrative skills, including the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, are essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers and all common software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge and experience with Camp Minder software a plus.
  • Interest in  a long term career within the YMCA and camping profession
  • An ability to effectively delegate responsibilities to others and to support them in their endeavors is necessary. Strong organizational skills are a must.
  • Should possess the following character traits; patience, dynamic presence in directing large groups, creativity, flexibility, tact, perseverance,  commitment to the YMCA core values and a positive attitude.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, work weekends and evenings throughout the year.
  • Must live on site from June 1st to October 1st.
