This position is integral to the strategic plan and operation of the YMCA as it involves organizing and implementing high quality teen youth programs.  The Youth & Teen Coordinator/STARS Program Director is responsible for youth program initiatives including, but not limited to, Leaders Club, Reach & Rise Mentoring and the grant based county Middle School Out-of-School – S.T.A.R.S. program. Areas of focus will include program development, increasing enrollment in all areas, staff and volunteer supervision, budget management and grant reporting, as well as the creation and maintenance of strategic partnerships with other youth serving agencies and local schools. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Follow all established YMCA policies and procedures. Expected to meet or exceed all grant and applicable licensing standards for assigned program areas.
  • Ensure high quality, dynamic and age appropriate youth & teen programs by assuring proper program curriculum is created, scheduled and taught. 
  • Participate in activities regularly and conduct periodic site visits to observe and assess programs, while providing detailed feedback to staff on how to improve their programs and/or site operation.
  • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions
  • Works in conjunction with HR to recruit, hire, train and develop personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff and volunteer performance.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and volunteers to achieve goals.
  • Research community needs and recommend initiatives to address needs.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance to strategic and operating plans.  Evaluates participant satisfaction in an ongoing basis. For grant based programs, monitors specific requirements and ensures compliance, including reporting requirements.
  • Support YMCA relationships with Sea Scouts, Police Activities League and Middle Schools served in the STARS Program.
  • Collaborates with marketing and distributes program information.  Organize and schedule program registrations.
  • Prepare and successfully administer budgets related to assigned programs.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents through quality programs.  Responds to all agency, parent and community inquires/complaints in a timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics.  Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Maintain necessary conditions of grants and licensing requirements, including appropriate records.
  • Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions, committees and special events
  • Cross promote all YMCA memberships and program options
  • Required to serve as the Cause-Driven Leader On Duty (manager on duty) periodically throughout the year.
Educational Background: 
Must be at least 21 years of age and hold a bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent and have at least two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • He/she must have the ability to demonstrate understanding of program development and management; effective and efficient time management; demonstrate capacity for managing and leading people; excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and coaching skills, and organizational skills; ability to exemplify a “Y-Voice” that demonstrates determination, genuine concern, welcoming attitude, hopefulness and a nurturing spirit. 
  • Understand ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization; maintain a work ethic that holds a high standard to organizational accountability.

Required Certifications

  • Code of Conduct Training
  • CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens Certifications or willing to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
