The Program Director oversees the direction of many Kentucky YMCA programs. This position directs program staff in development, preparations, and execution of statewide and local programs. The Program Director meets with Vice President and program team to allocate program people and resources, and directs team through major conferences such as the Kentucky United Nations Assembly. This position ensures documentation of all program best practices and standard operating procedures, and leads program teams in strategic program planning throughout the year. This person will direct local and statewide programming focusing on advocacy, servant leadership, civic engagement and policy initiatives.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the event planning, event management, logistics, vendor relations, and staff management of the Kentucky United Nations Assembly.
  • Directs the staff team to ensure team is prepared for the Model UN conference and has a strong planning strategy.
  • Communicates with hotels to create and review banquet event orders for each program date.
  • Creates agenda with staff team and is responsible for overseeing the entire Model UN program.
  • Directs the KY YMCA’s youth service, advocacy and fundraising program Y-Corps through curriculum updates and writing, logistics, staff team oversight, and staff team training and support.
  • Works to secure and foster community partner relationships for all programs.
  • Supports and cheers on the staff team in all programming areas.
  • Directs the full staff team at the winter leadership conference and will be an onsite lead at the summer leadership conference.
  • Leads the logistics and staff planning for officer retreat.
  • Responsible for event planning, logistics and team directorship for various local programs.
  • Maintains partnerships with the education sector and other non profits. Engages these partners in programming and civic needs, and as a means of fund and resource development.
  • Acts as primary support to the Kentucky YMCA programs, including (but not limited to) KYA, KUNA, LTC, GFI, Y-Corps, Officer Retreat, local programs, and national teen conferences.
  • This position requires regular travel to Kentucky YMCA offices (Frankfort and Louisville), conference facility locations, and other venues throughout the state of Kentucky. Can expect 50% travel, and must have reliable transportation.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three or more years of professional experience in another nonprofitpreferred.
  • Individual self starter and teamcollaborater.
  • Three or more years of experience in event planningpreferred.
  • Experience in program development andmanagement.
  • Experience with team directorship andmanagement.
  • Professional presentationexperience.
  • Experience working in professional/organizationalpartnerships.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, particularly Word andExcel.
  • Ability to lift and move 35 pounds, have good mobility, and maintain high level of energy over an extended period oftime.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the year, with reliabletransportation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to large groups, over phone, and viaemail.
  • Understanding that you will stay overnight in a hotel for a potential of 12 days in the month ofMarch.
  • Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers andstaff.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships withothers
