The Program and Volunteer Coordinator works to support the programs of the Kentucky YMCA through work with the Program Directors, under the supervision of the Vice President. This position aids in communication and logistics planning for statewide and local programs, and executes key functions of the programs. This includes coordination of year-round program components, communications with participants and community partners, planning with vendors and stakeholders, directing YMCA teams, recruiting and managing volunteers, and coordination of student officer/leadership teams.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Recruits and maintains communication with all program volunteers.
- Works with Vice President and Director of Mission Advancement to create volunteer trainings and events throughout the year.
- Supports Metro Youth Advocates (MYA) through program logistics, facilitator training and support. Works to secure and foster community partner relationships for the program.
- Synthesize and create program report outs with Program Directors.
- Communicates with vendors to ensure supplies are purchased in reasonable time for events.
- Responsible for facilitating small groups and understanding program curriculum.
- Directs small and large staff teams when Program Director is unavailable.
- Ability to stay organized with receipts and expenses.
- Responsible for brainstorming ideas with Program Directors and writing program curriculums.
- Ability to communicate efficiently via phone with participants and teachers.
- Organizational and time management skills are necessary in order to maintain a pack list.
- Contributor to program content pre, post and during programs.
- Supports partnerships with Louisville-based education sector and community partners such as JCPS and the Louisville Y Association.
- Communicates with our Youth and Government and Model UN officers to make sure they are prepared for all conferences.
- Guides teen Y-Corps captains through programming.
- Gives presentations and trainings to partner organizations. Strong Public speaking skills necessary.
- Acts as primary support to the Kentucky YMCA programs, including (but not limited to) KYA, KUNA, LTC, GFI, Y-Corps, Officer Retreat, local programs.
- This position requires regular travel to Kentucky YMCA offices (Frankfort and Louisville), conference facility locations, and other venues throughout the state of Kentucky. Can expect 50% travel, and must have reliable transportation.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field.

- Ability to travel up to 50% of the year, with reliable transportation.
- Ability to communicate clearly to large groups, over phone, and via email.
- Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others
