The Assistant Wellness Director (Group Exercise and Engagement) is responsible for developing and administering all group exercise programs and assisting with all facets of the wellness center operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to development of staff, implementing quality standards, develop best practices for group exercise programs. Will also assist in member engagement and experience, to include on-boarding, member follow up, and creating and leading wellness incentives and challenges.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and supervises group exercise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives (see detailed list below)
- Assists in development and scheduling of group exercise classes.
- Coordinates facility cleanliness and purchases equipment/supplies as required.
- Engages members in the innovation, development, implementation and assessment of classes and programs.
- Monitors daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
- Maintain accurate records, files and data collection procedures for all program participants and members.
- Hires, trains and supervises group exercise instructors.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
- Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals by providing in-service training and educational opportunities.
- Acts a liaison between the Membership and Wellness Department, ensuring members have a positive experience at the Y, are connected to staff and programs, and are successful in achieving their health and wellness goals.
- Creates and implements incentive programs and wellness challenges for members.
- Provides an average of 20 hours a week of direct program delivery (teaching group exercise classes, personal training, and providing small group training).
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Assists in planning and managing department budget as approved in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate payroll preparation for direct reports.
- Supports MetroWest YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
- Maintains all certifications and training hours necessary for the position.
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction. Participates in membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members, including onboarding and intake initiatives.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in exercise science, health science and fitness, or a related field preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Current national certification in group exercise or personal training, CPR, First Aid and AED required.
- At least 1 year of experience teaching multiple group exercise formats.
- Competency in relationship building skills, communication skills, and project management.
- Bi-lingual preferred.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $35,000.00 - $42,000.00
