The Assistant Aquatics Director will be responsible for assisting in the administration of aquatics programs and policies at the Framingham branch and Clearbrook Family Swim Club to include: youth and adult swim classes, aquatic fitness classes, private swim lessons, swim teams and open swim and lap swim scheduling and adult safety programs. This position will play a key role in community and member relations.

Areas of Responsibility: 

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

  • Creates, develops, administers, and teaches safety classes in accordance with an authorized provider and all other obligations and requirements.  Processes and issues course certification cards/documentation on a timely basis. Provides a minimum average of 15 hours per week of direct program delivery which may also include teaching, coaching, and/or lifeguarding. May assist in program guide development and management and posting of pool schedule

STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

  • Provides direct leadership and supervision to lifeguard staff team including recruiting, hiring, training, developing, directing, reviewing and evaluating performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.  Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Leads regular in-service training and drills.

MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT                                                         

  • Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction. Build relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems.  Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause. 

BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • May assist in preparing or submitting payroll.  Assists in monitoring of programs to meet fiscal objectives.  Monitors activity level in pool vs staff ratios to ensure proper distribution of staff resources.  May assist in processing refunds and credits.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT

  • Works with  Facilities staff to provide program facilities for members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and  facility maintenance. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations including maintaining safe ratios of guardsand be available on an “on call” basis as required.

VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

  • Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT

  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • CPR for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, Oxygen, and Lifeguard, YMCA Swim Instructor certification required.
  • CPR Pro, First Aid, Oxygen Instructor must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Lifeguard Instructor must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $33,280.00 - $36,400.00
