Under the guidance of the Executive Director, and in accordance with Association policies, the Program Director is responsible for direct supervision and leadership to the Aquatics Fitness and Sports Departments of the YMCA. Preferred candidate will have expertise in Aquatics. This person will also need to work with staff and volunteers, programming for the needs of the membership and the community.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans in the Aquatics, Fitness and Sports departments to promote program growth for the Geary Family YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
- Prepares, develops, administers and controls all department fiscal budgets including meeting income targets and expense control, in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Hire, supervise, train and evaluate staff teams. Consults with Executive Director before suspending or terminating staff members.
- Understands and fully participates in the Y-Improvement model for his/her departments as well as any assigned initiatives. Will ensure data within the Y-Improvement model is accurate and up to date. Will be accountable for meeting or exceeding target conditions related to his/her areas of responsibility.
- Develops and directs high quality relationship-based engagement strategies. Models relationship building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community
- Provides leadership and support to the annual campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
- Prepare and conduct all in-services, trainings, and meetings.
- Schedule and supervise staff in all accountable departments. Fill in for absent staff as needed. Help to secure subs as necessary.
- Perform safety checks weekly and live drills as least 1 per month and other suggested Association Aquatics Audits.
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
- Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- Ensure the safety of our members and staff. Report any areas needing attention immediately to proper department.
- Works with Executive Director to help develop annual branch goals and individual staff goals as determined by the strategic plan.
- Assist the Executive Director with any other projects or activities as assigned to help the branch reach its goals and objectives.
Educational Background:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent
Skills/Experience:
- Five or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff and volunteers, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
- Certified Lifeguard with current CPR, First Aid, AED and O2 certificates.
- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certifications required.

Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $29,000.00 - $31,000.00
