The Northwest YMCA is looking for an innovative leader to join the team and support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director will lead the development of and implementation of high quality healthy living programs.  The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality wellness programs, combine with the ability to manage the administrative components of the job.  Strong organizational and time management skills are necessary to ensure that members have a high quality experience at the Y.  Responsibilities include supervision and training of staff along with new and innovative ideas to grow and expand existing programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide leadership to the wellness department at the Northwest YMCA to meet monthly sales and retention goals.
  • Develop and monitor budgets to meet fiscal objectives with a department operating budget totaling over $1 million annually meeting all financial goals.
  • Lead and develop a Wellness Coordinator to meet their individual goals.  Oversees the hiring, training and supervision of Group Exercise, Wellness Coaching, and Personal Training staff.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all workout equipment.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase membership volume and retention of members and program participants.
  • Responsible for the creation of 80+ weekly wellness class schedule, upkeep and communication of the Group Exercise Schedule and in the assurance of 100% class coverage by Aerobics/Group Exercise staff, assuring high quality programming.
  • Responsible for member communication of all Group Exercise schedule changes and updates.
  • Supervises and conducts routine maintenance and minor repairs to all fitness equipment, and is responsible for implementation of daily cleaning of the Fitness Center and all related equipment.
  • Implements comprehensive Health & Wellness program offerings based on members' and participants' needs, including the development of new programs and quality control of existing programs.
  • Assists with execution of member engagement initiatives.
  • Leads branch health fairs, community events and other Wellness activities.
  • Recruits, trains and leads volunteers who assist with special events and other YMCA activities.
  • Assists with the leadership of staff and volunteers in the Annual Campaign.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years as a coordinator or supervisor of health and wellness programs.  
  • National Personal Training Certified.  
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.  CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
  • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail and high degree of initiative will help this candidate be successful.  
  • The ability to direct programs through leading both staff and volunteers, developing and monitoring budgets, developing and marketing programs and bringing enthusiasm and a passion for fundraising.  
  • This leader will need the ability to connect and relate with diverse groups of people at all levels of the organization.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00 - $43,000.00
