Help youth and families with available resources through programming geared towards personal growth, connected families, and self advocacy
The Youth Service Bureau has an opening for a Youth Advocate beginning Nov. 2019. This position will work directly with individuals and families involved in social service programs geared towards developing comprehensive action plans that provide resources and support to foster growth and success.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop and complete action plans that help assigned families in finding resources to support their established goals such as securing transportation to appointments, and how to advocate for themselves.
- Maintain weekly phone contact, bi-weekly face-to-face sessions, and home visits with each family assigned to caseload.
- Assist the YSB-SOCAP team in developing and maintaining contacts and relationships with significant community youth service agencies, counseling agencies, juvenile courts, schools, churches and other groups and programs, which can be helpful to the family.
- Participate as an active team member of the SAFE PLACE program, carry the safe place crisis phone during a scheduled 5-7 day period each month, and respond as needed.
- Keep timely and accurate records of assistance provided to youth and families through the various YSB programs, and make computer entries on a weekly basis.
Educational Background:
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field.
Skills/Experience:
- At least 3 years of social service experience in juvenile delinquency intervention, social work, or case management is preferred.
- Must have excellent written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills. Bilingual abilities are preferred.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Products or the equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to have a flexible work schedule that includes some evenings and weekends. Must be able to carry the Safe Place Cell Phone for a scheduled 5-7 day period per month period, and respond to calls as needed.
- Possess a high degree of judgment, confidentiality, and resourcefulness required to arrive at sound decisions.Ability to work with individuals regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation, or marital status
Compensation/Benefits:
Starting Salary Range: $33,000-$38,000
