GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the District Vice President or Branch Executive and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, the Program Director - Aquatics administers, supervises, and develops the aquatic programs and services of the Branch. Recreational and instructional programs are conducted for preschoolers, youth and adults in accordance with the program and membership policies of the branch.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Campbell County is looking for an experienced professional to lead their aquatic programming efforts.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the District Vice President or Branch Executive and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, the Program Director - Aquatics administers, supervises, and develops the aquatic programs and services of the Branch. Recreational and instructional programs are conducted for preschoolers, youth and adults in accordance with the program and membership policies of the branch.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, coordinate, manage and expand aquatic programs and services for all age groups.
- Develop long-range vision and strategies for the aquatic department.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications and are current and complete.
- Supervise and guide all aquatic staff in the duties outlined in their job descriptions.
- Organize, staff, and conduct registration for Preschool, Progressive, Adult and Private swimming lessons, Water Exercise classes, and swim team practices and meets.
- Collaborate with Y-USA, Red Cross, ASHI, Arthritis Foundation, Sliver Sneakers and other appropriate agencies to provide YMCA aquatic programs for all populations.
- Plan and develop a continuous program of staff and volunteer training and development, affording the opportunity for total staff certification in YMCA aquatic leadership. Provide CPR for Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration training for all branch staff. Assume leadership role in this training program.
- Inspect the facilities and equipment within the department to ensure high standards of maintenance, cleanliness, and repair of equipment. Understand and implement total emergency procedures, closing and opening of the pool facilities, etc.
- Plan and develop the schedules for all aquatic programs.
- Be available during classes (especially first and last week of session) periodically to provide ongoing member service. Visit with parents to establish relationships with participants.
- Maintain current aquatics certifications including swim lesson instructor and lifeguard in order to teach classes to stay in touch with participants; ensure that their needs are being met and to keep up with current trends.
- Conduct and prepare aquatic evaluations including cost analysis, program enrollments, and qualitative measures of program and membership services.
- Plan and develop an annual budget of income and expenses for the department. Administer the annual budget as approved emphasizing income production and expense control.
- Take responsibility for all first aid and blood-borne pathogen kits for all areas of operation of all facilities. Keep a stock of surplus supplies, place all orders as necessary and maintain supplies in an organized and workable method.
- Monitors daily pool and whirlpool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Attend and assist with meetings including but not limited to staff meetings, program committee meetings, association meetings, etc.
- Accountable to ensure all staff members maintain appropriate certifications, including, but not limited to; Lifeguard, CPR Pro, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration requirements. Work with direct supervisor sixty (60) days before certifications are set to expire to ensure requirements are kept up-to-date.

Skills/Experience:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Health, Physical Education or related field is required.
- Two to three years aquatic experience required; preferably in YMCA aquatics.
- Current YMCA Lifeguarding or American Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration.
- Complete all association required trainings within deadlines set by Human Resources.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSL) and/or WSI Certification preferred.
- Experience in personnel supervision, recruitment, training, and development of staff and volunteers.
- Budget development and administration skills preferred. Planning and program development skills helpful.
- Completion of YMCA aquatic certifications and trainer certifications:YMCA POOL (Pool Operator On Location)
- YMCA Lifeguard Instructor and/or Trainer, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer, Water Fitness Instructor and/or Trainer, YMCA Aquatic Management (YAM)
- Be working towards completing YMCA Leadership Competency Model (Team Leader, Multi-Team or Branch Leader, Organizational Leader) Certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and the general public is essential. Good organizational and written/oral skills necessary.
- The incumbent must be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities to the staff in order to accomplish the necessary duties.
- Must be able to supervise, direct, and guide all aquatics programs with knowledge of the association’s short and long term goals.
