The YMCA of South Florida is fast paced requiring ideal candidate(s) to own the healthy living programming and service expectations, daily auditing and evaluation of staff and member experience standards. Strong organizational and programming competencies are necessary for successful performance. The new Senior Healthy Living Director must provide leadership to the member experience standards and create a culture of extraordinary customer service at assigned center. These positions will be working in close partnership with the Association Office and reporting to an Executive Director and the VP of Operations. Candidates must have 5 years of demonstrated success with revenue growth, following systems and protocols, staff development, and a strong commitment to the YMCA mission and values. The qualified candidate(s) must also have demonstrated success in managing and growing assigned budgets in order to execute and exceed the goals of the Association 2020 Operating Plan.

One location with an immediate opportunity is the Hollywood YMCA Family Center. This family center is 60,000 sq. ft. with a comprehensive wellness center, group exercise studio, indoor cycling studio, gymnasium, preschool, kid zone, multipurpose space, indoor lap pool, and outdoor pool with zero entry and play feature area. In addition, we have a converted racquetball court for high intensity programming and performance training. Hollywood has a population of over 150,000 and is the twelfth-largest city in Florida.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Ensure revenue expectations and budgeted bottom line for Healthy Living and Membership Departments are met.
  • Meet / Exceed annual budgeted targets and goals for new member sales/acquisition.
  • Supervises Personal Trainers, Healthy Living Coaches, Group Exercise Instructors, Membership Sales Coordinator and Membership Representatives, including: hiring, developing, coaching, evaluating, managing performance, etc. along with coordinating schedules shifts, classes, and appointment management for the healthy living and membership departments.
  • Meets all assigned program enrollment, retention and quality benchmarks by marketing and promoting Personal Training, Small Group Training and Healthy Living Programs.
  • Supervise the new member orientation process (Healthy Living Orientations-HLOs), ensuring members are connected at point of sale and remain well-engaged during the program.
  • Develop and implement innovative, high quality, member-focused programs to serve the needs of the local membership base.
  • Actively serve on the Association Healthy Living Team, helping to share and create best practices throughout the YMCA of South Florida.
  • Work with Family Center Leadership Team to address any member concerns and ensure high scores on member satisfaction surveys and/ or secret shop reports.
  • Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Identify community opportunities for brand awareness, exposure and prospecting.
  • Provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the community.
  • Inspect equipment regularly and ensure that fitness area and equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately in accordance the YMCA of South Florida standards.
  • Ensures that the wellness floor, personal and small group training programs follow the program standards, policies, and guidelines of the YMCA of South Florida, as well as state and local codes.
  • Ensure that the prospective member experience is based on hospitality, by establishing systems and monitoring adherence to membership policies, procedures, standards and best practices.
  • Immediately report to the Executive Director any injuries. Complete appropriate documentation and send documentation to association office within 24 hours.
  • Uphold all Association policies, guidelines and protocols and be a professional at all times when interacting with staff, volunteers, members, business professionals and community leaders.
Educational Background: 
Bachelors’ of Science degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Human Services, Recreation, Business or equivalent
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven success in a supervisory role in the health and fitness industry, or related field.
  • Demonstrated budget management and performance in excess of $300,000.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent supervisory and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Excellent computer skills, (Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $48,000.00 - $68,000.00
