The YMCA of South Florida is looking for a Director of Recreational Therapy to join their Youth Development Team. The Director of Recreational Therapy is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the overall operations of the program throughout the the Pembroke Pines Community, including administration, management, marketing, program development of recreation therapy and Special Olympics.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and maintain systems designed to enhance quality and efficiency of the program areas
  • Develop and maintain community relationships with regard to the school system, community, state and national agencies providing services related to programs.
  • Therapist will work to restore motor, social and cognitive functioning,
  • Build confidence, develop coping skills, and integrate skills learned in program settings into community settings based upon participant interests.
  • Develop and maintain programs that will specialize in the treatment of mental or physical disabilities (i.e.) creative arts, sports, aquatics, adventure programming, dance/movement, community outings,
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate staff to meet quality and performance standards of the Y.
  • Develop and monitor enrollment, payment, and safety guidelines for use throughout the YMCA of South Florida service area.
  • Participate in the Annual Support Campaign.
  • Prepare annual budget; manage and take appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Coordinate the training of all necessary staff.
  • Create and Implement Programs.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy or related field, with a preference for a candidate who is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong community relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff.
  • Excellent supervisory and organizational skills.
  • Experience adapting sports
  • Working with children and adults
  • Ability to work Nights and weekends
  • Experience with Intellectual and Physical Disabilities
  • Experience with Parks and Recreation
  • Excellent interpersonal; ability to relate with individuals at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent computer skills, (Microsoft Word and Excel).
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00
