Teach For America - South Carolina’s Director, Marketing & Communications will lead our communications and marketing strategy in South Carolina in order to illuminate the story of our impact to various internal and external audiences. The Director, Marketing & Communications will have a unique opportunity to ensure our regional staff receives the training and support they need to stay on-brand in all of their communications materials throughout each fiscal year. This person will also help us with ensuring our regional marketing strategy is executed with a pathway to optimal marketing. The Director, Marketing & Communications will report directly to the Senior Managing Director, Chief of Staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

External Marketing & Communications (60%)

  • Serve as both internal and external contact to effectively communicate Teach For America-South Carolina’s programmatic initiatives, goals, and impact
  • Serve as liaison to national media and communications team, which includes driving the execution of regional media and communications strategy (microsite management, media / news / press)
  • Create and distribute mass communications that demonstrate Teach For America’s effective stewardship of donors’ investments
  • Manage and lead the expansion of the communications strategy for the region to include but not limited to:
    • Manage regional digital strategy and accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
    • Support the Chief of Staff or other team members to prepare presentations and materials for external meetings when needed
    • Regional website design process and creation
    • Regional marketing collateral
  • Act as an engaged and catalytic learning partner to our regional team to enhance innovation and to quicken the pace of progress in South Carolina; set up systems and a culture that enables and holds the regional team accountable to do the same
  • Collaborate effectively with the programmatic, development and operation teams to manage the overall external communications and marketing strategy data needs
  • Compile data and supplementary materials (such as education research, financial reports, and statistics on programmatic initiatives) for partner communications
  • Manage collection and distribution of corps members and alumni stories of impact

Internal Marketing & Communications (20%)

  • Proactively develop or evolve existing systems for the regional team to maintain operations and communications (project management platforms, team email blasts and website)
  • Ensure the TFA SC yearly regional policy manual is updated with newest marketing and communication strategies
  • Crafting messaging for staff members when requested to stay on-brand for any platform: CM blasts, website, TFASC google site, meetings and in person events.
  • Manage and lead the re-design of the staff-facing Weebly site and the corps member facing Google site

South Carolina Regional Team Responsibilities (20%)

  • All team members meet submission requirements for reimbursements (monthly), timesheets (weekly), and American Express reports (monthly, as needed) to support the organization’s financial standing
  • Participate in regional matriculation efforts by owning a portfolio of 2-5 matriculants across 4-5 matriculation window
  • Participate in and complete Staff Meeting pre-work and attend monthly regional meetings
  • Support and participate in regional events
  • Drive own professional development with support from manager and others to include mandatory professional development requirements of the region (i.e.: Racial Equity Institute trainings)
  • Engage in community opportunities that have personal meaning/connection
  • Understand and effectively communicate Teach For America-South Carolina’s programmatic initiatives, goals, and impact externally and internally
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required, Marketing degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 - 7 years of work experience preferred
  • A proven ability to build and leverage relationships across multiple layers
  • Deeply committed to Teach For America’s core values, mission, theory of change and is passionate about helping staff members develop their leadership in service of our movement for educational equity
  • Highly interested in and motivated by the concepts of diversity, equity, inclusiveness, leadership, and what makes people great
  • Extremely high attention to detail
  • High level of integrity and discretion is required

Work Demands

  • Willingness to work some weekends and evenings to attend or facilitate external or TFA-SC corps member or regional events
  • Ability to travel by car to in-person meetings in various South Carolina cities regularly
  • Must be willing to work from a Teach For America - South Carolina Office in Charleston, SC
