Under the direction of the Sr. Program Director, Program Coordinator will supervise the development and implementation of child obesity, family/community programming and senior programming, in accordance with the policies and accepted purpose of the Association. This position is primarily responsible for working with our staff, our members, volunteers and program participants on the front line (approximately 80% time spent with program delivery and 20% in administrative duties). Also included is the daily supervision of program staff to ensure proper training, consistent coverage of programs, and excellent member services, and building a culture of healthy living for all people. In addition, he/she will be directly managing community and vendor agreements.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Model daily the YMCA values and characteristics of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Model professional behavior and appearance daily and act as a positive and effective liaison between the YMCA and the community
  • Represent the YMCA effectively by assuming leadership roles in the YMCA and in the community whenever possible
  • Create an atmosphere that promotes member satisfaction and addresses member needs
  • Able to work evenings and weekends to deliver programs and classes.
  • Must be highly motivated and passionate about the YMCA while displaying a positive attitude at all times.

Specific Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assumes direct responsibility for program development, satisfaction and retention
  • Assists to recruit, hire, train and supervise and evaluate all staff / volunteers related to the department as growth occurs and approved by Senior Program Director
  • Communicate regularly with Senior Program Director and other key staff
  • Participates in all YMCA events and special effort to raise community awareness, build financial support and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the YMCA
  • Contributes to providing a safe and member‐ friendly environment throughout the YMCA
  • Assumes direct responsibility for the facility and activities within at all times
  • Staff involvement in annual support campaign
  • Meet all budget expectations for department as provided
  • Contribute to staff effort in Annual Campaign and special events.

Specific Program Responsibilities:

  • Programming time split 60% for obesity programming & 35% family/senior programming & 5% administrative.
  • Gives direct leadership to the following program areas youth programs/ wellness programs,
  • including but not limited to senior programming, all child/family obesity classes and
  • youth/family wellness.
  • Assist in supervision of the program staff, all key volunteers/interns and facilities
  • Create and schedule Senior classes , child obesity programs, and family/community programs with approval from Senior Program Director
  • Develop, organize and implement high quality YMCA programs, including innovative new programs.
  • Design and implement new senior programs / child/teen obesity programs/family and community programs.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information through flyers, brochures and media materials where vital to program success.
  • Develop, implement & evaluate all programs /child obesity classes
  • Provide direct instruction to classes in all areas of delivery
  • Develop special pre‐school family programs.
  • 30‐35 Family Nights held on Friday, Saturday and/or Sundays
  • 4‐5 major community family events – i.e. Valentines, Easter, Fall, Fest, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.
Educational Background: 
The Candidate requires a BA/BS degree in Wellness, Exercise Science, Health / Physical
Skills/Experience: 
  • Education or two to three years’ experience in a related field and a strong commitment to the YMCA philosophy and values.
  • Well defined administration Skills and proven abilities in the area of personnel management, program planning, budget, public relations, record keeping, maintenance and safety are required.
  • The Program Coordinator is part of the Leadership staff team and must possess a leadership style that is team orientated and thrives in a fast past culture.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $23,660.00 - $26,000.00
