Under the direction of the Operations Director, the Health and Wellness Coordinator will supervise the development and implementation of group exercise classes and wellness programs, in accordance with the policies and accepted purpose of the Association. This position is primarily responsible for working with our staff, our members and program participants on the front line( approximately 90% time spent in the frontline duties and 10% in administrative duties). Also included is the daily supervision of Wellness Staff to ensure proper training, consistent coverage of programs, and excellent member services, and building a culture of healthy living for all people.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Model daily the YMCA values and characteristics of Caring, Honesty, Respect ,Responsibility and  Faith and have staff do the same
  • Model professional behavior and appearance daily and act as a positive and effective liaison between the YMCA and the community
  • Represent the YMCA effectively by assuming leadership roles in the YMCA and in the community whenever possible
  • Create an atmosphere that promotes member satisfaction and addresses member needs
  • Assumes direct responsibility for membership development, satisfaction and retention
  • Assists to recruit, hire, train and supervise and evaluate all staff / volunteers related to the department
  • Communicate regularly with Senior Program Director and other staff
  • Participates in all YMCA events and special effort to raise community awareness, build financial support and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the YMCA
  • Contributes to providing a safe and member- friendly environment throughout the YMCA
  • Assumes direct responsibility for the facility and activities within at all times
  • Staff involvement in annual support campaign
  • Meet all budget expectations for department as provided
  • Gives direct leadership to the following program areas adult fitness/ wellness programs, including but not limited to aerobics programs, personal training and youth wellness.
  • Assist in supervision of the Health/ Wellness Center staff and facilities
  • Create and schedule aerobic classes with approval from Senior Program Director
  • Develop, organize and implement high quality YMCA programs, including innovative new programs.
  • Design and implement new health and wellness programs
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information
  • Develop, implement & evaluate Wellness Challenges
  • Provide direct instructions to classes
Educational Background: 
The Candidate requires a BA/ BS degree in Wellness, Exercise Science, Health / Physical Education or two to three experience in a related field and a strong commitment to the YMCA philosophy and values.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Additional education and or related experience in the areas of group exercise class instruction, personal training and a national certification (ACSM, NSCA, ACE and or national group exercise certification) is a plus.
  • Well defined administration Skills and proven abilities in the area of personnel management, program planning, budget, public relations, record keeping, maintenance and safety are required.
  • The Healthy Living Coordinator is part of the Leadership staff team and must possess a leadership style that is team orientated and thrives in a fast past culture.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $28,000.00 - $36,000.00
