The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer of the organization. This individual manages regional accounting staff, functions and internal controls. This individual is responsible for development and oversight of the budget, monthly statements, financial analysis, and regional assets.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures
- Protects assets by establishing monitoring and enforcing internal controls
- Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans
- Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective plans
- Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Trains and manages financial staff by coaching, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Assist in the month ending closing process, including generating analyses and required journal entries, so that financial statements accurately reflect activity
- Analyses balance sheet accounts, detailing the composition of the account balances. Follows up on outstanding items
- Assist in the preparation of monthly custom reporting for Operations, Development, and Finance
- Maintains analysis of rental and other miscellaneous revenue billings and ensures proper payment is received
- Assists with the year-end audit
- Assists with the budget process
- Consistently looks for ways to improve systems and controls
- Assist CFO with presentations and reporting as required
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members. Facilitates member to member and staff to member relationships; fostering a sense of community
- Attends training, organizational and staff meetings as requested by supervisor
- Follows YMCA Human Resources and Risk Management policies, chain of command, procedures of the institution
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred
Skills/Experience:
- 2-5 years related experience
- Experience and knowledge of Federal and State Grants and Subsidies
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
