This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for clearly communicating the YMCAs mission, vision and organization goals and objectives to ensure a high level of awareness and engagement leading to increasing community, financial and volunteer support. Elevate and protect the Y brand by developing, implementing, and maintaining consistent, accurate, and professional publications, promotional materials, and digital communications by adhering to the graphic standards set forth by YMCA of the USA. Work collaboratively with the Marketing Department to ensure consistency of messaging across areas of responsibility. This position may require early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Financial Development

  • Lead the development of campaign collateral and media support for YMCA philanthropic efforts including annual campaign, capital campaigns, endowment campaigns and fundraising events.
  • Work closely with branch leadership to create meaningful case statements and inspiring campaign messaging.
  • Initiate, lead, and manage the execution of video projects that support YMCA mission advancement efforts.
  • Grow and maintain the YMCA’s photo archive to support YMCA and BBBS storytelling.
  • Create opportunities that engage various constituent groups in the mission and impact of the YMCA and BBBS (members, potential members, donors, and volunteers).
  • Develop and maintain community partner relationships and monitor community events and resources for opportunities to promote YMCA services. May coordinate and staff community events as needed.
  • Create a comprehensive social media strategy to elevate YMCA and BBBS profile in the community to inspire increased donations and volunteer engagement.
  • Support financial development with coordination of online giving campaigns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Brand Awareness and Community Engagement

  • Establish contacts with media representatives and write/submit press releases when appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain crisis communication plan in collaboration with Safety and Risk Management team.
  • Serve as or support Association spokesperson/s with crisis management media messaging as required.
  • Create and manage Association internal staff communications.
  • Support and monitor online communication objectives related to the Strategic Plan including collecting and verifying outcome metrics.
  • Promote the Y brand by developing, implementing, and maintaining consistent, accurate, and professional publications, promotional materials, and online/electronic communications by adhering to the graphic standards set forth by YMCA of the USA.
  • Develop effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations, and companies including making presentations about the YMCA and BBBS.
  • Maintain updated files of YMCA’s media relations (both press and electronic)
  • Develop and maintain community partner relationships and monitor community events and resources for opportunities to promote YMCA services. May coordinate and staff community events as needed.
  • Lead development of association printed materials and communications to include newsletters, annual report, strategic plan, and impact reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, English, or a related field or equivalent education or experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three+ years of experience in public relations & communications and not-for-profit organizational management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact positively with staff and top community leaders
  • Ability to exercise sensitivity in dealing with individuals of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cognitive and physical abilities as well as individuals of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Be able to work independently; make decisions under pressure; have excellent organizational, time management and decision making skills; and the flexibility to change priorities as required
  • Be able to speak, write, and understand English clearly and concisely; ability to communicate in additional languages is a plus; proficiently use personal computers and commonly used office and marketing software, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications as well as Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and InDesign. Strong skills in designing and implementing social media strategies including the use of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Familiar with basic HTML
  • Experience with email management system (Constant Contact or similar tool); SharePoint experience would be a plus
  • Must have strong interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries

Salary: $61,176.00
