Camp Echo is seeking a culturally humble leader that can strengthen the Camp Echo, McGaw YMCA, and Evanston communities. The Director, Leadership & Equity is a key leader both at Camp and throughout the McGaw YMCA in programming and leadership development with equity as the priority. The Director will be responsible for developing new staff pipelines, overseeing Camp Echo’s leadership development programs, and supporting the continuous development of Camp Echo’s leaders.
This is a new role with opportunities to develop many new programs and practices. These new programs and practices include a seasonal staff council that will meet regularly during the non-summer months to give voice to more camp leaders and developing an Inclusion Team to provide greater support to staff at camp. The Director, Leadership & Equity will also provide day-to-day leadership at camp, contributing to camp's strategic direction and decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing and leading cause-driven youth programs, training staff, and developing strong community relationships in diverse, inclusive, and equitable settings.
The Director is expected to live at Camp Echo in for summer season: approximately May 15 to September 15.
NON-SUMMER
- Leads recruitment strategies for non-traditional pipelines of Camp Echo staff and strengthens existing pipelines
- Supports all Camp Echo hiring managers in executing culturally aware hiring practices, including interviewing, selection, and onboarding
- Supports development and implementation of summer Leadership Development programs: Leaders In Training, Counselor In Training, and Junior Support Staff
- Provides leadership to year-round outdoor leadership program opportunities that connect Camp Echo participants with Evanston-based programs and community members with Camp Echo programs as a bridge to summer opportunities
- Facilitates a staff council of seasonal leaders, giving voice to a diverse group of staff members that can meet on a regular basis (in-person or virtually)
- Develops and leads onboarding of new Camp Echo staff
- Develops and leads seasonal Inclusion Team at camp
- Supports the summer registration/enrollment process
- Provides leadership to other McGaw YMCA programs, strengthening cross-departmental relationships and impact.
SUMMER
- Leads trainings for seasonal staff, as necessary, including leadership approached through cultural lenses and program development
- Provides leadership to Camp Echo Leader In Training and Counselor Training programs, and any additional leadership-focused programs offered by Camp Echo
- Develops and implements on-going in-service trainings for staff, including the coordination of any mid-summer all-staff trainings
- Is on-call support to all summer programs, lending leadership and experience to the increased impact of ALL campers at Camp Echo
- Proven track record and passion for developing equitable program/service models for diverse communities
- Exceptional personal and community relationship building skills
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Bilingual English and Spanish speaker preferred
- Certified in CPR and First Aid
- Competency with basic computer skills
Salary: $53,360.00 - $67,000.00
