The Eugene Family YMCA Board of Directors is actively seeking a visionary to lead our Y into its next exciting chapter.
In the midst of a $26M capital campaign to replace its current facility, it is a thrilling time for the Eugene Family YMCA. Hiring a CEO who can manage and lead this capital campaign to a successful conclusion is a key priority for the Y Board. Additionally, we seek a leader who will work with and build upon strong executive leadership to fulfill our mission of strengthening our community by offering programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
The CEO will be uniquely positioned to champion the YMCA mission and develop partnerships to meet the needs of a growing population. Building upon and expanding partnerships is a key focus for the future work of the YMCA.
Qualified candidates must have solid business acumen, sound judgment, and exceptional leadership skills. Top candidates will have experience in leading a successful capital campaign and implementing staffing and procedural systems for a new Y facility. Additionally, they must have a proven track record that demonstrates an ability to successfully implement and promote the YMCA’s services and activities to the community; assess community needs and develop programs in partnership with others to meet those needs; raise funds through annual and capital campaigns; develop and manage staff; and work with a YMCA board that focuses on strategic issues. Opportunities exist to dramatically expand our Y’s impact in our community including: facility expansion, membership growth, program expansion, financial development and increased community partnerships and collaborations.
- Lead a Culture of Philanthropy: Manage and support the ongoing efforts our $26M capital campaign to construct a new Y facility. Establish a plan for attaining the YMCA's annual fundraising goals and take the campaign to new levels of engagement with members, volunteers, donors and staff. Develop and communicate a compelling case for support that fosters ownership and invites people to invest in community impact through the Y. Important fiscal goals include a balanced budget, development of specialized campaigns to support the current day-to-day operations, development of a maintenance reserve, the securing of grants through grant-writing, implementation of a planned giving program, and growth of endowment funds. A new CEO will be critical to communicating the Y’s vision in our community and establishing the Y is a leader in the non-profit community locally.
- New Facility Development: Guide the progress of fine-tuning the existing design and constructing a new Y facility with the goal of creating inviting, flexible space to allow for innovative partnerships, lifelong wellness and community-building. Bring staff and community members along in the construction process creating a communal sense of ownership and pride.
- On-going support of a Strategic Plan: Have the ability to work effectively with volunteers, key staff, and the YMCA of the USA Resource Director, to support the Eugene Y’s strategic roadmap that addresses opportunities and challenges related to the community’s support of facilities and programs, with defined organizational strategies. Lead staff in the implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. Lead volunteers in creating and aligning committees and their charts of work to support the strategies and goals of the association.
- Advocate the YMCA vision within the community: Serve as ambassador for the mission, goals and values of the YMCA. Lead efforts with increasing membership and delivering high quality programs to the community. Actively interact and communicate with the communities in the region as a representative of the YMCA. Represent the YMCA’s mission to community leaders, donors, staff and volunteers. Assure existing strong partnerships are fostered, and new partnerships are created. Be seen and respected as a leader within the community, while proactively creating collaborations to enhance outreach and program initiatives.
- Develop and Manage the Staff Team: Develop and manage our staff team. The YMCA seeks an inspiring “lead by example” individual who can promote positive energy and strengthen our cohesive team. The new CEO will create a plan to build unity, encourage teamwork, set operational goals tied to a strategic plan, hold staff accountable, and foster individual staff development. Lead by example; remain actively engaged in staff development and performance leading to superior results in programs, member satisfaction and community engagement. Evaluate current strengths and weaknesses of all key staff and create a plan to integrate members and program participants where appropriate.
- Establish and Maintain a Culture: Our Y is the hub of our community; a place of welcoming, inclusion and camaraderie. Continue to foster the strong bond between our staff and our members. Ensure that the ‘feel’ of our Y transitions to a new larger facility – managing membership growth without losing individual membership connection. Laugh and be silly, listen and care, welcome and encourage.
Additional Key Priorities:
- Fiscal Management: Use a high level of financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth and stability while consistently leading the organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions, and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff leaders on the successful financial operation of their areas of responsibility. Monitor the budget closely to address competition that may impact membership, facility needs, and anticipate impact on revenue and expenses related to upkeep and maintenance.
- Improve Operating Performance: Work with the board to develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key YMCA goals and objectives. Remain fully informed of all operational issues, and have the keen ability to quickly address any issues that might arise as well as forecast future needs.
- Continue to Develop an Effective and Diverse Volunteer Board: Work with an active and engaged board to continue developing the knowledge, diversity and capacity of the board to lead our community into an era of unprecedented growth. Guide the organization to research each key initiative, build agreement, enlist support from each critical constituency and establish a timeline for completing each aspect.
