The Program and Education Specialist will be responsible for coordinating educational programs and support groups, providing direct constituent support (such as information, referrals and care consultations) and increasing awareness of local Chapter services. Additional key responsibilities include working with volunteers/interns and outreach to health systems and long-term care community-based organizations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Carry out the delivery of the Chapter’s core services including caregiver education, care consultation, information and referral, support groups, professional training and outreach.
  • Effectively plan, schedule, market and deliver Association core services within the community including coordination with volunteers who deliver programs. 
  • Conduct outreach and education with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Conduct timely and effective promotion and outreach activities to increase the Chapter’s visibility in the community.
  • Identify and meet the needs of diverse communities and populations.
  • Assist with partnership development in the community.
  • Assist the Program and Education Manager with the recruitment, training, management, supervision and support of volunteers and interns.
  • Represent and assist the Chapter at appropriate and assigned meetings, conferences, trainings and public events such as health and resource fairs.
  • Remain knowledgeable and current on information related to Alzheimer's and related dementias as well as national, state and local initiatives that affect the population.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor's degree in a related field. A Master's degree in a healthcare related field such as social work, psychology, counseling, nursing, gerontology or public health preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of three years of experience in community outreach, health care guiding, coaching and/or supporting individuals and their families
  • Experience managing, supervising and supporting volunteers and interns
  • Ability to work with a wide range of diverse constituents including persons with dementia, families, professionals and volunteers
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and public speaking communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize work
  • Must have access to reliable vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout Chapter area with some evening, weekend and overnight travel possible
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other software and databases
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
