Program Director II - Gymnastics

The Program Director II- Gymnastics is responsible for communicating the YMCA mission and program opportunities. As a part of the branch management team, this position will be responsible for direct supervision of staff, processing payroll, scheduling program classes and activities, administrative work, fiscal management, and development of all gymnastics programs and promotional materials. Duties will include coaching and teaching if needed, instructing class programs, assisting with birthday parties, private lesson and camp scheduling, as well as planning of gymnastics center fundraisers.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for supervision of assigned department staff including gymnastics instructors and coaches.
  • Create class teaching schedules - daily, weekly and monthly.
  • Manage all functions of the Gymnastics Department including but not limited to: rec gymnastics progressive or class program, related special events, preschool program, private lessons and facility rentals. 
  • Conduct staff meetings every 6 weeks with safety and customer service topics along with specific teaching and instructional items.
  • Formally assess and evaluate all staff members once per year.
  • Responsible for gym center cleanliness, maintenance and safety.
  • Participate as a liaison in the annual support campaign and meet recruitment and fund raising goals.
  • Work with registration coordinator to close and open classes, set fees, attend Branch and Association meetings, training and events as assigned by the Associate Executive Director.
  • Responsible for creating an annual budget, monitoring and maintaining budgeted goals.
  • Assess the inclusion of YMCA mission and values in all program areas including emphasis on family programming in the department.
  • Represent the Branch as needed in the community through various groups, organizations, coalitions, etc.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Education, Communications or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 3 years’ experience operating or managing YMCA or similar gymnastics program with budget greater then $1 million.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience as a gymnast or related activity preferred.
  • USAG Professional membership, meet director, U-100 and current safety certification required.
  • Experience with boys and girls gymnastics both operationally and coaching required.
  • Experience creating daily staff and gym rotation schedules.
  • Ability to provide strong and effective leadership to large staff team as well as mentor to younger staff.
  • Must have experience with and knowledge of all gymnastics apparatus.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Experience directing gymnastics competitions-meet director certification.
  • Must be available to work evenings, some weekends and to attend assigned competitions locally or out of town.
  • Ability to diplomatically handle difficult situations and /or people.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills while maintaining professional, caring, honest, respectful, and responsible behavior.
  • Professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively with the public, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
  • The physical ability to lead and participate in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Well-developed understanding of the importance of a culturally diverse staff and membership.
