Under the direction of the CEO and in accordance with the nature and purpose of the Camp Wood YMCA, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) is responsible for the planning, development, supervision and coordination of high quality Camp Wood YMCA programs.  He/she is responsible for developing awareness for Camp Wood YMCA through marketing, promotions and events in the local communities of Chase County and throughout the state of Kansas, and beyond.  He/she is responsible for the staff recruitment and supervision of all Camp Wood YMCA programs and for the budget development and oversight for all program areas.  He/she will lead a program development team to develop year-round and summer programming.  He/she must maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of Camp Wood YMCA programming, which includes residing on site.  He/she will lead promotions of summer camp, retreat, and outdoor education programs.  The COO will exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and an “I’m Third” mentality in all areas of their work for the YMCA.

Educational Background: 
Bachelors Degree in related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The Chief Operations Officer (COO) must have a high level of organizational skills
  • Supervisory skills and a good understanding of administrative procedures including budget development, income production, expense control, marketing/promotion and maintenance of accurate records.
  • Five years of YMCA experience in related programs or a related field with at least three years in supervisory role.
  • A high level of written and oral communication skills as well as customer service skill is necessary.
  • The position requires maturity, enthusiasm, and familiarity with program development and implementation, staff training and supervision and a demonstrated ability to work with youth and adults.
  • Previous experience in Camping, Retreat, and/or Environmental Outdoor Education is preferred.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and manage interruptions and handle requests efficiently, and successfully coach full-time and part-time staff and have strong computer proficiency.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule, to include many evenings and weekends.
  • Current certification in CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens (mandatory), and Lifeguarding (preferred).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $42,000.00 - $46,000.00
