The CEO leads the work of Camp Wood YMCA (CW-YMCA), a nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in a “camping framework,” and, in partnership with the Board of Directors, is responsible for CW-YMCA’s strategic vision and success. The CEO oversees CW-YMCA’s programming, financial stability, community and philanthropic relations, staffing, development, and operations, under the policies, directives and guidelines established by the CW-YMCA Board of Directors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Institutional Advancement: Embrace the concept of advancing the organization through actively engaging in public relations, marketing, and alumni and donor development to create greater regional and national awareness of Camp Wood YMCA, increase annual camp participation numbers, and secure charitable support.
  • Mission Advancement: Incorporate the Y’s mission and values into the organization’s vision and strategies. Leads a culture of volunteerism ensuring engagement, inclusion, and ownership of the organization by the board, staff, volunteers and donors. Lead a culture of philanthropy and insure the four steps of fundraising – donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and appreciation - are incorporated into the development program.
  • Core CW-YMCA Values: Embrace and incorporate the principles that (1) every child belongs at camp; (2) children grow stronger when they learn and play outdoors; (2) price should not be an obstacle to a family whose child wants to attend CW-YMCA; (3) diversity of faith, ethnicity, economic status and cultures among campers is encouraged and embraced; (4) family matters; (5) access to technology should be limited to campers; and (6) challenging a child to experience new activities builds courage, character and self-confidence.
  • Operational Effectiveness: Possess effective strategic and critical thinking skills. Understand the process of planning and establishing benchmarks, goals and objectives. Create a structure to deliver organization-wide results to achieve objectives. Develop and implement strategies and processes with staff to complete daily tasks and achieve larger vision for the CW-YMCA.  Operate in a transparent and open manner, routinely and effectively communicating with board, staff, and other stakeholders. Incorporate best practices including but not limited to the areas of finance, development, management of staff, and board engagement.
  • Leadership: Create a learning organization. Effectively drives change by leveraging resources and creating alignment to expand organizational opportunities. Shares authority and demonstrates courage and humility. Have functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well in a non-profit environment; uses best practices and processes up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in business administration, human services or related area; related graduate degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Seven or more years of board management experience, preferably in the YMCA and/or not-for-profit sector, including strategic planning, goal setting and benchmarking, board and volunteer development, and philanthropic development, specifically major gift solicitation.
  • Experience in a mid to senior-level position with a nonprofit whose annual operating budget is $1 million or more each year.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial development, financial management, public relations and board and volunteer development.
  • Ability to attract, retain, lead and motivate quality staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Must have commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA and uphold its values and ethics, and the specific core values of CW-YMCA.
  • Must be an effective spokesperson and representative on behalf of CW-YMCA.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people and organizations from all social and economic segments.
  • Commitment to live and work on-site, year-round, in order to preserve direct and accessible leadership.
  • Ability to complete and pass a criminal background check and possession of a valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE CRITERIA as OUTLINED by THE BOARD

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (NOTE: Candidates not already in possession of this certification will have up to three years to obtain via YMCA of the USA).
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00
