The Nature Conservancy is seeking an exceptional individual to support one of the Conservancy’s leading conservation programs. The Central Appalachians Coordinator will support the program with a variety of administrative, organizational, and logistical support tasks. The Central Appalachians program includes a director, three strategy teams, a fundraising and a marketing team. This position will support these teams and their efficient function to deliver cutting edge conservation outcomes. Following appropriate training, this position will be the designated person to help implement TNC’s Highly Effective Teams approach for team structure, organization, and delivery of outcomes. Additional responsibilities include supporting the Director to manage the Central Appalachians budget and work plan, arranging key staff’s travel arrangements, calendar and email management, drafting correspondence, processing expenses, and scheduling and coordinating logistics of meetings and special events. They will communicate on behalf of the Central Appalachians Director with staff in various programs across The Conservancy; as well as with donors and key external partners. They will also effectively communicate or distribute information to assist staff in making decisions, solving problems, and improving workflow. Additional administrative functions may be in their scope of responsibility, as required.
The Central Appalachians Coordinator provides direct administrative, organizational, and logistical support to The Nature Conservancy’s Central Appalachians program, including the Central Appalachians Director and program teams. The Central Appalachians program works with seven TNC state chapters, from New Jersey to Tennessee, to advance two of TNC’s priority global conservation strategies—protection of climate resilient forests, and natural climate solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Provide logistical and organizational support to Program Director, strategy teams, fundraising team, and marketing team;
- Act as a Highly Effective Team coach to all Central Appalachians teams;
- Help facilitate core team, strategy team, and full team in-person and remote meetings;
- Record, communicate, and track decisions and action items to teams;
- Help synthesize actionable steps from complex team deliberations;
- Maintain Program Box and Connect sites.
- Maintain comprehensive contact list and execute internal communications with Program Director
- Act independently on assigned tasks and exercise independent judgment based on analysis and experience; work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines;
- Coordinate projects with several variables, work within a defined timeline and budget;
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential and emotionally charged information;
- Ensure compliance with Conservancy policies and procedures, and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements;
- May act as a resource to others to solve problems and act in supervisor’s stead when instructed;
- Refer difficult questions and unusual problems to supervisor;
- Travel and work flexible hours; and
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- Experience generating reports and interpreting data;
- Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading;
- Experience organizing time and managing diverse activities to meet deadlines; and
- Experience working across teams and communicating with a wide range of people
