This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA Skate Center programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
General Responsibilities
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs skate center and food service personnel and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Develop, implement, track, and control the department budget, in accordance with branch and overall budget guidelines to meet fiscal objectives.
- Responsible for significant cash handling and management responsibilities including totaling transactions and performing reconciliation.
- Must be available to work nights and weekends to oversee skate center and food service activities, programming and staffing.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- May assist with Program Committee meetings.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skate Center Responsibilities
- Secures and schedules skate center facilities. Sets up equipment for activities such as roller hockey league games and practices, pickleball, parties and other events; monitors and purchases necessary equipment as budget permits.
- Creates teams for leagues from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
- Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules skate referees; develops and distributes roller hockey rules, guidelines and handbooks.
- Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
- Organizes and conducts skate/roller hockey clinics.
- Plan marketing and distribution of skate center program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
- Confirms rental skates inventory and all other rink equipment is in good working order at all times.
- Ensures safe repairs and keeps accurate records.
- Maintains excellent quality of skate floor at all time. Provides clean, sanitary and safe internal and external areas of the facility.
- Ensures skate facility meets all local, state, and federal safety and fire codes at all times.
- Confirms emergencies supplies (e.g., first aid kits, fire extinguishers, etc.) are available and in good working order.
- Monitors security, maintenance and custodial duties throughout the skate facility.
Food Service Responsibilities
- Supervises and coordinates activities of food service workers. Assigns duties within the food service area.
- Responsible for inventory management and ensures that all food service work areas and storerooms remain sufficiently stocked.
- Order and pick up replacement stock as necessary. Proactively prepares for all food service needs including daily concessions menus, Summer Camp, Activity Day Camp, party rentals and special events.
- Maintains a high level of quality and cleanliness in the food service area at all times. Provides for clean, sanitary and safe internal and external controls in the food service area.
- Ensures food service area is in compliance with all local, state, and federal food safety standards including annual inspections.
- Oversees and/or participates in food service set-up and closing procedures. Ensures personnel properly clean equipment at closing and organize stock for next day.
- Oversees accurate transaction totals for all cashiers. Investigates any discrepancies in money and inventory.
Educational Background:
Bachelors degree in a related field and/or appropriate combination of education and experience to support on-the-job effectiveness.
Skills/Experience:
- Prefer 2 years of previous leadership experience in staff management that focuses on exceptional customer service.
- Prefer skate rink and food service experience; working knowledge of Illinois Roller Skating Rink Safety Act; and food safety and sanitation standards including knowledge of health department requirements.
- CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, Food Service Sanitation Manager certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications as required.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $35,000.00 - $38,500.00
