The Recreational Sports Director develops, organizes and implements high quality recreational sports programs.  This position is responsible for establishing the YMCA as the leader and a pacesetter for recreational sports programming in the community. 

Under the direction of the Branch Director and consistent with the mission of the YMCA, the Recreational Sports Director must have a commitment to the YMCA and its core values of: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs recreational sports personnel and volunteers.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Develop, implement, track, and control the department budget, in accordance with branch and overall budget guidelines to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks. Must be available to work nights and weekends to oversee leagues, clinics and conduct trainings.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes
    team photographs.
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • May assist with Program Committee meetings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
    in program. Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Additional requirements may include: CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
Compensation/Benefits: 

 

Salary: $33,000.00 - $36,000.00
