We are seeking a highly motivated, visionary team member who can contribute to the growing Child Development Center at our Y. Candidates for this position must have strong relationship building and communication skills, a passion for working with children and their families, and be highly innovative. Job responsibilities will include:  oversee all aspects of our Pre-School and Before and After school programs which include managing 3 full time Directors, 8 full time teachers and 90 part- time staff at 13 different sites; oversee the 6 week – 4K preschool program, oversee summer day camp programs which include managing 45 staff with 200 kids attending daily throughout the summer; oversee the schools out program; and seek out information from school leaders and families to ensure the school age department is meeting our community’s needs; must be familiar with state licensing requirements; develop staff through structured trainings that focus on safety, delivering quality programs, relationship building, and parent/participant engagement; work in collaboration with school leaders to ensure consistency in programming and staff training; and also work with all Y dept directors to ensure the Y is meetings its mission. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the Child Development Center which includes pre-school and school age child care programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree desired in Education, Child Development, Recreation or a related field to meet licensing requirements.           
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must meet State of WI Group Childcare licensing rules for 51 or more children
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children
  • Microsoft Office knowledge a must & Google email & docs is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire.
