Under the supervision of the Branch Executive Director, the Program Director will plan, organize and implement the outdoor activities and programs, including day camp, at the Lower Shore Family YMCA, (Pocomoke, MD). The Outdoor Activities Director should have a passion for the outdoors and teaching and be able to work with a variety of ages and ability levels. The candidate must ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of staff, campers and participants. Responsible for overall Day Camp operation as well as the development, planning and coordination of outdoor activities including high ropes course, zip line, open water beachfront area, Alpine tower, trails, archery, kayaking, fishing, climbing wall and overnight camping trips.
- Incorporate and model our YMCA Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Develop outdoor programming activities to expand beyond summer camp.
- Oversee implementation of outdoor programs including curriculum development, daily activities, schedule, transportation and special events
- Responsible for program operations: licensing compliance, daily activities, communication, participant behavior management, scheduling, quality of programming, staff development and coordination of transportation.
- In cooperation with the Executive Branch Director, recruit, hire, supervise and train staff
- Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with members, children, parents, co-workers and supervisors.
- Ensure the physical, emotional and social safety of participants and work with staff to create an environment in which all are respectful of each other and the guidelines of camp.
- Report to the Branch Executive Director any concerns about the behavior of a particular participant and report any suspicions of child abuse immediately; document accordingly on an incident report.
- Build relationships with Outdoor Programming participants and staff.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a leadership role in the areas of summer camp, youth programming, teaching or relative experience.
- Experience preferred outdoor programming, aquatics and/or camping.
- At least 21 years of age and with a good driving record (no more than 2 points on license) and willingness to obtain a CDL.
- Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
Salary: $32,000.00 - $35,000.00
