Under the general direction and supervision of the Membership Director of the Meadowlands YMCA, the Associate Membership Director is responsible for having the most up to date information on all programs, wellness classes, schedules and general information for the YMCA. This person will be able to actively teach and relay all information to welcome center associates as well as training them on best practices. With this position this person will be able to maintain strong professional relationships with members to provide them with the best service possible.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist membership director to Assess, develop, plan and evaluate Association membership acquisition and recruitment efforts including but not limited to marketing campaigns, prospective member tours, sales and new member on-boarding for the association.
  • Assist membership director to Implement membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Cultivate and lead a culture of exceptional member service.
  • Works in conjunction with the Health and Wellness Director to create an environment that delivers effective support for all people seeking health, well-being and community for themselves and their families.
  • Assist Membership Director to Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.  Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Assist Membership Director in training efforts for frontline staff in customer service, membership enrollment/ retention, and recovery strategies.
  • Perform all necessary membership and program registration including online registrations.
  • Efficiently manages the scheduling for the front desk
  • Complete all aspects of the hiring process from initial contact to assuring accurate completion of the hiring paperwork
  • Answers the telephone and provides accurate information in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a clean and friendly environment with relationship building as priority.
  • Able to follow all Meadowlands YMCA policies and procedures as well as enforcing them with welcome desk associates.
  • Participates in membership tours, membership sales and follow up to prospective members.
  • Maintains a positive and professional image
  • Communicates with membership staff on all changes that occur in the building
  • Ensures that the cash drawer is being recorded accurately
  • Participates in all special events, such as open houses.
  • Coordinates and schedules all front desk staff with the Front Desk Supervisors
  • Communicates directly with members and the community to build, strong, positive and lasting professional relationships
  • Consults and communicates with the Membership Director on all matters of importance
  • Assists Membership Director with all promotional activities throughout the year
  • Assists Membership Director with the Annual Support Campaign
  • Able to handle challenging customer service issues in the absence of the department director
  • Able to actively communicate with YMCA directors on matters that require their attention
  • Delegating basic duties to staff to engage them and have them become better employees
  • Working scheduled ‘manager on duty’ shifts
  • Participating in local events and sales calls outside the YMCA
  • All other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two (2) years related sales experience and/or training and development of high performing teams.
  • Must have a background in staff team development, relationship management, and use of technology.
  • Sound management skills including member service and retention, customer service, personnel management, supervision, fiscal management, and fundraising.
  • Experience in a membership development organization required.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, community groups, and Association events.
  • YMCA Team Leader Certification desired.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $45,000.00
