The Technology Director is a trusted and experienced advisor to management and serves as a senior leader for IT in the organization, participating in strategic planning, outcomes planning and assessment and other operational management functions such as in the areas of infrastructure, telecommunications, web/application development, database management, disaster recovery, information security, service desk, classroom technology support, business intelligence and multimedia services.

The successful candidate will have a 'customer first' approach to managing operations and recommending solutions for the Members, Faculty, Staff, Administration and the Community which the YMCA serves, while being adept at balancing and prioritizing initiatives and tasks based on institutional requirements and resource constraints while managing risk.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage the operations of computer labs, gaming rooms and employee computers, including equipment functionality, security, purchasing, and scheduling
  • Set and maintain software and hardware standards
  • Implement lab technical operating standards
    • Hire, train, and supervise IT staff
    • Manage lab equipment and purchasing process, recommend purchases, changes and equipment upgrades as needed
    • Serve as the department’s liaison to lab users including staff and members
    • Develop and implement uniform standards for lab conduct and operation
    • Compile and disseminate information concerning lab technical and usage patterns
    • Perform all other related duties as assigned
  • All other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned by supervisor 
  • Develop reliable metrics for hardware, software and storage while ensuring strategic capacity planning
  • Communicate clearly with administrative and clinical (management and direct care) staff as well as agency’s vendors and partners
  • Oversee the operation of server systems
  • Identify security vulnerabilities and eliminate them with strategic solutions that increase data safety
  • Establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by upper management
  • Purchase efficient and cost effective technological equipment and software
  • Inspect the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Identify the needs for upgrades, configurations or new systems and report to upper management
  • Supervise IT personnel and provide guidance
  • Control budget and report on expenditure
  • Assist in building relationships with vendors and creating cost-efficient contracts
  • Research and solve all technology-related problems
  • Approve all hardware and software purchases
  • Participate in the maintenance of a knowledge base of problems and solutions
  • Contribute to process and procedure documentation and FAQs to assist users and other support specialists with technology tasks and issues
  • Assist in the development and teaching of programs on commonly used applications, and take enthusiastic interest in developments and innovation in educational technology
  • Perform other duties as required. 
  • Reviews and develops IT Policies and Procedures for consideration and implementation by the CFO
  • Develops formalized project plans using industry standard solutions to better coordinate and manage IT projects.
  • Assists the CFO in developing annual and long-term plans and associated budgets
  • Participates in regular meetings with direct reports as well as with IT management to review status, performance and other topics as required.
  • Performs hands-on tasks when required.
  • Participates in various compliance, discovery and audit activities pertaining to IT or the YMCA
  • Serves as the Project Manager on numerous simultaneous projects while managing expectations and setting high standards for project delivery
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Programming, Computer Science or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience: Five years IT management/supervisory experience, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Advanced knowledge of desktop and server operating systems, networking, hardware and software. Expert use of office productivity software and the ability to handle budgeting and purchasing activities. Proven leadership and management expertise required. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required with the ability to relate to a population of diverse cultures and varying degrees of computer literacy.
    • Microsoft Windows certifications preferred
  • Experience helping and supporting faculty use of technology is important. At least 3-4 years of relevant technical problem solving and client support is strongly preferred.
  • Experience formally managing multiple projects while managing a budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills while establishing strong working relationships with various constituent groups
  • Effective problem solving skills and the ability to think creatively but ethically for solutions to problems
  • Availability to resolve time sensitive and critical issues as needed
    • Position will be on call during facility operating hours
    • Supports 4 locations
    • Hours and work days may fluctuate as demands require
Compensation/Benefits: 

$45,000.00 - $55,000.00
