Become a leader in a YMCA developing a high quality wellness program. We are seeking a motivated, experienced Health and Wellness professional with creative vision and strong administrative and communication skills to assist our Health and Wellness department at the Meadowlands YMCA.
Facility includes a state of the art wellness center, Performance Training Studio with TRX, Kettlebell, and Skillmills. Established programs include: group exercise program, personal training, performance training classes, youth personal training classes and active older adult programming, massage and nutrition services. The Health and Wellness Coordinator will assist in all aspects of the fitness and wellness programs. Specific responsibilities will include supervision and maintenance of the wellness center, supervision of all programs, orienting new members to fitness programming and providing quality personal training sessions. Must have 3+ years of professional experience in fitness and have knowledge of exercise physiology and strength training principles. Supervisory and customer service experience in a membership organization a must. Preferred applicants be bilingual in both Spanish and English. Qualified candidates must know how to administer fitness assessments and design fitness programs, have entrepreneur's attitude and skills, and have proven ability to build relationships internally and externally.
- Promote and provide opportunities to build member-member relationships and member-staff relationships
- Discover and present new ways to demonstrate member appreciation and work closely with the Wellness Director to implement wellness incentive activities
- Identify wellness center processes, signage, obstacles and challenges that may be improved to be more customer friendly
- Interact with members in all programs on a regular basis through personal interaction, phone calls, letters, email and other media with extraordinary welcoming attitude and customer-service philosophy to promote YMCA involvement
- Actively teach and instruct in relevant areas of the department
- Must be able to sub in emergency situations which includes classes as early as 5am and as late as 9pm.
- Lead by example in promoting member discussions, using member names, greeting each member and wishing each member well upon leaving; show sincere interest in member progress, success and absence from the YMCA and acting upon those interests
- Act as a resource to train staff in various departments and work closely with Wellness Director on retention strategies, member interactions and customer-first behavior
- Identify areas of potential growth for programs; develop and implement strategies to target and integrate potential participants
- Assist in setting up staff meetings, agendas and trainings
- Develop community partnerships with health/medical partners and collaborate when applicable
- ROSTER (Recruit, Orient, Supervise, Train, Evaluate, Reward) all wellness employees along with the Director
- Must hold staff accountable to for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress
- Emphasize personal safety and emotional wellbeing with staff, volunteers, members and program participants.
- Retain all equipment maintenance plans, and maintaining overall cleanliness
- Prepare, distribute and compile reports of dept(s) evaluations as needed and instructed
- Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of wellness programs.
- Keep safety as a priority.
- Keep relationship building with staff and members at the next priority right after safety.
- By personal example helps interpret quality of YMCA Character Values.
- Actively promote membership within department. Increase visibility and credibility of YMCA programs.
- Reports all accidents / unusual incidents immediately and assists with necessary documentation.
- Participate in at least 2 Branch activities and all wellness special events.
- Performs other duties as required by supervisor (remains flexible).
- Accept and perform all other responsibilities necessary for the good of the organization.
- Preferred specialty certifications in one of the following areas: Personal Training, Group Exercise, Cooking Instructing, Cycle Studio management.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire
- Must participate in mandatory employee training at the YMCA
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Excellent communication skills
- Prior experience in the health and fitness industry
- Must be able to lift at least 45lbs
- Administrative skills, involving using Microsoft office
- Excellent knowledge and enthusiasm for Fitness Technology Apps
- Must have outgoing personality, be energetic, passionate, communicate well with others and be willing to be proactive in getting to know new people
Salary: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00
