The Raritan Valley YMCA is seeking a cause-driven leader who desires to make a major impact in the community to join our team as a Senior Program Director with focused responsibilities in Fitness and Membership.  The Raritan Valley YMCA is located in East Brunswick, NJ, minutes from Rutgers University and less than an hour to NYC.  Raritan Valley is an independent Y and offers an opportunity to diversify your skill set in a small Y environment and grow your resume!

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Understand and adhere to all Raritan Valley YMCA’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Personnel Policy and operations systems.
  • Assumes accountability for the budget and financial administration of the Wellness Center, Membership Department, and shared responsibility in the Youth Department for sports related programming.   Follows established association procedures and policies relative to finance, payroll and personnel in the operation of assigned departments.
  • Supervise the overall operations of the Wellness Center and its staff including, but not limited to equipment, maintenance, exercise and wellness programs, member service, orientations, member retention, and member follow up.  Evaluate and initiate change, drive participation and membership numbers upwards.
  • Learn and implement full usage of the DAXKO (point-of-sale) membership/program software to include setting up programs, gathering statistical information, running reports, rosters, and membership statistics.
  • Plan and execute events that focus on member sales and service.  Assist at sales desk, train staff on member promotions and sales techniques, register members, give tours, field phone calls and pursue membership leads or inquiries.  Perform front desk clerical duties as needed.
  • In conjunction with the senior staff team, the Coordinator will assume the responsibility for the screening, selection, supervision, training, development, management and success of subordinate staff and private contractors and their certifications.  Assure that they are trained and provide the ultimate in service.
  • Responsible for scheduling, staffing, marketing and evaluating exercise classes, youth sports programs, fitness classes with focus on increasing enrollment.
  • Develop and conduct departmental special events including but not limited to Healthy Kids Day, Open Houses, Membership Drives, Silver Sneakers socials, clinics, and promotional events in and out of the YMCA.
  • Act as Camp Director for selected fitness or sports camps/clinics.  Assist with day camp or childcare if needed.
  • Maintain a leadership role in the cleanliness, safety and risk management of all accountable programs.  Provide a healthy environment for members, guests, and employees. Report or remedy any safety related deficiencies immediately.
  • Perform other job duties as requested and necessary.
  • Obtain bus driver certification and assist with driving (optional and at increased salary)
Educational Background: 
The Fitness and Membership Coordinator must possess a college degree in Physical Education, Health, Sports Management, Exercise Science or similar concentration and; have related experience and certifications in the YMCA or fitness field.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • The candidate must have demonstrated skills in working with people, program planning and development with the ability to teach and obtain exercise instructor certifications.    
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $32,500.00 - $45,700.00
