Women in Conservation Working Lands intern

This job is no longer available

Durham, NC, USA
Internship

Audubon’s Women in Conservation program provides career opportunities for young women in the environmental field. Each spring and summer, we offer seasonal positions for young women to advance our conservation work and further develop young women’s skills and knowledge in the field of wildlife conservation.

Audubon North Carolina, the state office of the National Audubon Society, works with landowners to enhance and improve habitats that benefit priority birds in ways that align  with landowner goals and objectives. This internship will work with our private lands biologists to identify opportunities to expand and build on our forestry work with minority landowners.  This work will build relationships that enable the delivery of technical and financial assistance to these communities.  Work will include supporting our presence at trainings, tabling events, and other opportunities to connect to partners, service providers, and landowners.  The intern will also examine our communications channels and methods used to reach these target communities, and work with other communications staff to build effective tools and methods for outreach.

This internship pays a stipend and will last 13 to 19 weeks, 30 to 40 hours per week, based in Audubon's North Carolina headquarters in east Durham. The intern will be required to use their personal vehicle for several trips to coastal North Carolina, including Wilmington and Southport in southeastern NC as well as our Pine Island Sanctuary in Currituck County, in the far northeastern part of the state. One or two trips to Western North Carolina are possible as well. Mileage for travel to field sites will be reimbursed and overnight accommodations will be provided or reimbursed for trips.
