The Youth Development Coordinator will work in the various youth programs on site in Dupree, SD, in the outlying communities, or at our residential camp, Camp Marrowbone. Activities may take place indoor or outside. They will work with a staff team of 4-8 to deliver quality programing to Native American and non-Native American youth. We are seeking someone who is flexible and patient, compassionate and eager to learn about different cultures. Housing is provided.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Interface with community members to promote the Sioux Y movement. Ensure high quality programs. Expand offerings in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school administrations, family groups, and other organizations and agencies. Respond to all inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate program statistics and records related to attendance, income, participation, impact and more. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of each program.
  • Assist in overseeing, coordinating, and participating in events such as community dinners, holiday events, evening and weekend programming such as girls/boys night, field trips, Saturday Fun Clubs, leadership trainings and conferences.
  • Communicate with the whole staff team to promote the same vision of success for every participant.
  • Assist in building a strong culture through the core values of the Y, leadership, and intentional programming.
  • Provide for the upkeep and maintenance of assigned program facilities and equipment.
  • Assist in developing the budget and ensuring that all programs operates within budget
  • Recruit, train, and develop personnel. Review and evaluate staff performances. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
Educational Background: 
BA in related field or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum Age: 21
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of practices, procedures, and activities as they relate to youth development
  • Ability to manage and prioritize many different tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to be solution oriented and a self-starter
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Ability to assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs both independently and as a part of team

Required Certifications

  • Must acquire within 6 months of hire if not already possessing current certification:
  • Commercial Driver's License with Airbrake Endorsemen
  • CPR/First Aid
