The After School & Day Camp Program Director (PD) assumes responsibility for the management and operations of the AS & Day Camp . The PD is responsible for leading the development and implementation of programing, providing leadership for staff, contributing to program operating procedures and standards, risk management policies, while ensuring financial sustainability. The PD works in collaboration throughout all departments of the organization to ensure financial stability, consistent implementation of the mission and high quality programing according to the Greater Scranton YMCA standards and goals.
The After School & Day Camp Director must have a sufficient background of education and experience to fulfill the operating objectives of the Greater Scranton YMCA, a thorough understanding of YMCA program philosophy and operating principles, and the ability to articulate the mission and goals of the YMCA to others. The Aftere School & Day Camp Director must have the ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form, with strong human relations skills and the ability to work effectively with a large and diverse consistency of members, staff, fund-raising and policy-making volunteers, as well as other Association leadership.
Program Operations
- Ensures development and implementation of all programs and services to program participants, their families and community members in accordance to YMCA standards and licensing expectations
- Maintains and monitors state licensing standards for all applicable programs ensuring timely reporting and requests
- Supports the development of new programing which is both beneficial to the community and cost effective
- Works in collaboration with all staff and volunteers
- Ensures participant satisfaction through feedback from participants, parents and community members
- Supports leadership in developing new programing
- Takes lead responsibilities in assigned specialty area (teens)
Fiscal Management
- Develops and monitors assigned budget and ensures the achievement of department and association financial objectives
- Effectively anticipates financial needs of the program and manages expense to revenue ratios accordingly
- Ensures effective marketing procedures are followed according to YMCA standards
- Implements Enrichment Programs which align with the association goals, needs of the community and financial expectations
- Effectively tracks revenue and expenses for all assigned programs
- Provides appropriate financial reports as required by organization (budget/projections, grants, etc.)
Employee/Volunteer Staff Management/Development
- Provides effective leadership for staff/volunteers through supervision and mentoring
- Ensures appropriate recruitment, hiring and evaluation are implemented in a timely manner according to YMCA policies
- Appropriately mentors, supervises and evaluates assigned staff focusing on individual growth and development, in order to ensure success
- Participates in training as assigned
Financial Development
- Takes active leadership role in raising funds for Community Support Campaign
- Engages staff in year round opportunities to educate the community on the importance of financial assistance for our programs
- Educates After School staff on the Community Support Campaign and how it relates to the mission
- Attends Association fund raising events where appropriate
Facility Management
- Works with Education Director to identify and secure appropriate facilities and equipment
- Provides training and support to staff to ensure proper care of organization assets
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues to ensure proper care of organization assets
Community Relations
- Develops strong relationships with Principals and key staff at elementary schools
- Attends meetings at schools as assigned
- Supports Education Director in developing strong relationships with school community
Association Performance
- Participates and contributes to planning of organization events as assigned
- Consistently seeks opportunities to increase community impact in all aspects of the organization
- Works well with colleagues to support the success of the organization, it’s employees, volunteers and participants according to organization expectations
- Seeks opportunities for financial success of the overall organization
- Effectively recruits volunteers for organizational events

Salary: $30,000.00 - $32,000.00
