The Conservation Coordinator works within The Nature Conservancy’s Ohio Mitigation Program (OMP) which utilizes mitigation funds to locate and develop stream and wetland restoration projects throughout the state of Ohio. The OMP Conservation Coordinator assists the program manager and other OMP staff with report writing, property acquisition, database management, and administration of project review processes.  They will find a culture that supports and inspires conservation achievement and personal development, celebrates innovation, values collaborative approaches, and seeks lasting conservation results.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The position’s primary responsibilities are managing the internal review and approval process for OMP restoration projects, including, but not limited to: managing the writing of project abstracts for internal record keeping and approval, assisting with OMP property acquisition tasks, and implementing and maintaining a project management system for the OMP. This position is responsible for understanding and implementing OMP operations and objectives. Provides technical support to TNC staff in acquiring and evaluating OMP projects and OMP properties. The OMP Conservation Coordinator works under the supervision of the Mitigation Program Manager, and collaboratively with other OMP staff, TNC conservation staff, partners with the Corps, Ohio EPA and other organizations, and individuals as needed in carrying out duties. Work will be generally based in an office setting, with some opportunity for field work.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Works with TNC real estate staff to write internal project abstracts for OMPs mitigation projects and write baseline reports.
  • Works with TNC legal staff to order title searches, resolve severed mineral rights issues, and draft memorandum of agreements with project partners.
  • Assists with project management database set up and implementation.
  • Coordinates multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with strong attention to detail.
  • Occasionally visits mitigation project sites to gather data and/or meet with project partners. Field work may be in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.  
  • Makes day to day decisions as delegated by the supervisor.
  • Supervises no staff.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.  
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience handling standard business communications.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-4 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames.
  • Experience working on real estate transactions and contract management.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work with diverse partners.
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken, and graphical means in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources and work independently.
  • Ability to coordinate project information from a number of sources to populate databases and create reports.
  • Experience using ArcMap GIS, and GPS.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key ecological processes influencing wetland and stream ecosystems in Ohio.
