Under the supervision of the Regional Director of Competitive Aquatics, the Director of Competitive Aquatics is directly responsible for the leadership, program development, quality and safety of the competitive swim team.
This position is with our Lower Bucks Family YMCA.
Staff: Recruit, train, and consistently develop a staff team which exhibits a welcoming, positive, mature, and empathetic attitude; while displaying high knowledge of our cause-driven services.
Environment: Establish a clean, safe, organized, welcoming environment that speaks to all members.
Relationship Building: Through the use of Listen First, establish positive collaborations between staff to staff, staff to member, and ultimately member to member.
Data: Continually compile and use survey results to close service area gaps throughout areas of responsibility.
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans and pool schedules that promote program needs and/or membership growth and retention for the YMCA.
- Ensure that policies and practices are in place to create a safe pool environment; drop drills, aquatic quick checks etc.
- Develop, direct and control budgets for areas of responsibility. Ensure program operates within budget and receivables are collected in a timely manner. Complete finance reports by deadline.
- Develop, implement, lead and supervise all swim team programs based off Y-USA swimming and diving black book or equivalent, lifeguard team(s), and certification programs.
- Hire, train, and provide direct supervision of all swim team staff. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Provide leadership, organization and ensure program standards are met for all swim team meets and events.
- Ensure swim practices are executed to meet the needs of all ages, levels, and abilities of students and modifications/corrections are provided so that they learn to the best of their ability.
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations.
- Ensures high-quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- Positively interact and communicate with members and guests. Respond in a timely manner to requests, questions, concerns and/or complaints.
- Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
- Work in conjunction with the Marketing Department to ensure Marketing efforts are aligned with Y branding standards and a collaborative relationship is maintained.
- Positively and proactively communicate with colleagues. Respond in a timely manner to requests, questions and/or concerns.
- Attend organizational meetings as required, included but not limited to Quarterly Meetings, 4KEYC Meetings, etc.
- Support organizational and membership retention initiatives.
- Follow HR and Risk Management policies and procedures of the institution.
- Assure compliance with SEFA policies for volunteers and staff.
- Follows all Human Resources Policies and procedures of the organization
- Maintain knowledge of emergency and safety procedures; provide care in an emergency, document all incidents and accidents and report to your supervisor.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Y-USA or USA swimming certified or must obtain within six months of hire
- Extensive knowledge of competitive swimming, physics of swimming and stroke mechanics and NCAA, USA and National YMCA swimming rules including minimum of American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) level 2 certification
- 3-5 years experience as a Head Age Group Coach or Head Swim Coach
- 1-3 years supervisory experience
- Possesses and maintain current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification
- Trained in Listen First within 6 months of position
