Under the direction of the CEO, the Child Care Director is responsible for the administration, development, and supervision of all family and child care related programs including preschool, school-age childcare, school day off and summer day camp and family nights.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and implements all aspects of the Tuscarawas County YMCA childcare program including preschool, school-age childcare, day camp, and other family programs, in accordance with YMCA and Ohio Department of Job and Family Service (ODJFS) guidelines.  
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops and manages department budgets.  Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations.  Ensures YMCA program standards are met with safety procedures followed.  Responsible maintaining compliance with ODJFS and Step Up to Quality licensing regulations and preparing for licensing renewal visits.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing coverage with qualified teachers and assistants.  Facilitates communication and provides leadership.  Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. 
  • Coordinate transportation across the department and supervise school bus drivers accordingly. 
  • Responsible to track and maintain all staff certifications and required trainings. 
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs though innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
  • Actively builds and maintains positive relationships with families, YMCA members, state child care licensing agency, school administration, and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.  Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information to maximize enrollment. 
  • Compiles program statistics.  Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary environment and meets all state and local licensing requirements. 
  • Inspects equipment for safety hazards, damage or wear.
  • Organizes special events for families (Family Nights) and assists with YMCA fundraising activities and special events. 
  • Actively participates with the Annual Campaign as assigned.
  • Upholds guidelines of Director on Duty responsibilities and remains visible to participants when on duty.
  • Knows and administers the appropriate emergency action plan (EAP) for any situation, including first aid or CPR.  Completes incident and accident reports as required.  Communicates to CEO any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, elementary education or equivalent discipline
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum age requirement of 21.
  • Meet one of the minimum education and experience qualifications:- A Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA)
  • A two-year associate’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited college or university,
  • At least 1-2 years related experience preferred, specifically managing an ODJFS licensed program.
  • Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Attend New Employee Orientation within 60 days of hire.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Ohio Job and Family training requirements for licensing.   Must keep certifications current throughout employment.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $34,000.00
