Serves as a member of the Florida state team, based in Doral and responsible for the development and implementation of the Enterprise’s Enhanced Community Presence (ECP) work in Miami-Dade. Effectively involving volunteers in all aspects of AARP’s work with community partners including chapters, community groups, external organizations, academic and business communities, and policy makers. Works with Advocacy and Communications team members to develop and implement volunteer roles related to activities that advance AARP’s strategic and legislative priorities, utilizing the Lifecycle Map tool.
- Manage and cultivate volunteer leaders and core community volunteer teams that lend experience and expertise to the state team. Participates in training volunteers on priority issues, strategies, tactics, policies, relationship building, and state-specific political and communications processes
- Engages members, volunteers, and chapters in grassroots, community outreach, and policy maker relationship activities in support of the AARP state plan and the Miami-Dade ECP work. Organizes and maintains visible and effective coalitions and partnerships dealing with volunteer engagement, social impact, legislative, and member value strategic activities. Makes presentations at workshops and conferences, as appropriate
- Works in collaboration with Florida state colleagues and national office staff to promote AARP’s strategic issues, priorities, programs, and activities. As appropriate, facilitates interaction and communication with national office partners to request technical assistance and ensure that the proper resources are available for staff and volunteers, including issue material, talking points, updates, and briefing materials as it relates to Miami-Dade’s ECP work.
- Expands awareness of AARP and our priorities among community and public policy leaders. Identifies and positions AARP as a critical voice for age-eligible individuals, but also demonstrates relevance to all generations (i.e., decisions being made today can often most affect those 49 or younger). Manages and coordinates opportunities with public-speaking venues and other high profile venues, in collaboration with the Communications team with our ECP work in Miami-Dade. Enhances AARP’s reputation among non-traditional partners, including community leaders, businesses, educators, and policy makers. Initiates new relationships and sustains existing ones.
- Assists with monitoring the public dialogue about issues important to AARP through “issues” grids and other devices.
- Demonstrates AARP Leadership attributes and behaviors as well as Florida’s Leadership Behaviors in all interactions.

- Demonstrates a strong understanding of the state’s political and human services environment.
- Bilingual skills required for specific assignments based on the needs of the membership segment supported.
- In-State travel of 50% to 75% of work time required.
