The objective of the Sports Director is to supervise and coordinate all aspects of the youth and adult sports programs.  The focus of the job is to ensure satisfaction and well-being of the members, participants and volunteers involved.  The Sports Director will be fully responsible for the policies & procedures regarding the sports programs.     

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implement all department policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates all Sports leagues, tournaments, programs and special events for youth and adults.
  • Recruits, Trains, Supervises and Evaluates all officials and coaches for each program.
  • Develops and maintains department budget and all other department financial reports including participation, volunteer and scholarship numbers.
  • Recruit sponsors for Super Saturday tournaments, leagues and special events.
  • Conduct quarterly meeting with your committee assignments.
  • Implement and administer new programs.
  • Commitment to the YMCA Core Values and Mission and Sports Pledge and incorporate into all programs.
  • Participate in our membership process and all other membership campaigns, promos and special events for the Y.
  • Inventory and Equipment Forecast for all Sports programs
  • Work one lunch shift per week and one Director on Duty shift a week.
  • Attend program director’s meetings quarterly and weekly staff meetings.
  • Any other work deemed necessary by the BED or Association staff.            
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management, Physical Education or a related field is preferred but not necessary. At least two years of training or experience is needed if no degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Certifications in athletic training, youth sports coaching, officiating and any other related fields is helpful but not necessary.
  • Ability to meet requirements of YMCA of the USA for Team Leader.
  • Must be current in CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Current driver’s license with acceptable record and vehicle liability insurance. 
  • Must possess a cooperative spirit committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to staff, lay leaders, YMCA members, program participants and general public. 
  • Personality traits must include honesty, friendliness, dependability, self-initiative and respect for personal and property rights.
  • Ability to communicate well with staff, volunteers and program participants. 
  • Physically able to move freely throughout the facility and other program sites and to lift 50 pounds. 
  • Maturity, tactfulness and good judgment are needed to handle supervision problems.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and articulate accurate information
