Manager, Sustainable Storm Water Finance

The Manager of Sustainable Storm Water Finance will work with TNC-MI and NatureVest staff to manage the development and implementation of financial structures and supporting business entities that design, construct, and maintain green storm water infrastructure in line with the Conservancy’s conservation priorities. A successful candidate for this position will have the ability to structure and raise public and private sources of capital; conduct sophisticated regulatory and economic analyses; analyze various business models and make recommendations for the efficient use of capital; and report and present findings to a diverse set of stakeholders in a clear and coherent manner. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • This position’s work will inform a portfolio of projects that support the on-going and universal application of Green Storm water Infrastructure (GSI) across the City of Detroit.  This is an opportunity to bring your knowledge of how policies can be leveraged to the benefit of both people and nature in a city that is experiencing rapid reinvestment and change. Your skills and ability to pair economic development, finance, and urban design, with tools and policies that serve to manage vacant land, and drive GSI investments to critically underserved portions of the City of Detroit will be a key attribute to our program.  
  • This position will report to the Detroit Program Director in the development and implementation of the Program’s strategic plans and policies, and will provide leadership and direction to Program staff and its subcontractors. The successful candidate will also serve as the primary point of contact between the Detroit Program and the NatureVest staff supporting the work in Detroit.

Skills/Experience: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a private sector environment, such as management consultant, business consulting, investment banking, or with a social/community enterprise, conservation organization, government entity, quasi-governmental economic development corporation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience building and communicating complex financial models for the purposes of soliciting private investment.
  • Experience with both municipal, non-profit, and private industry clients.
  • Familiarity with municipal funding and financing structures, both public and private.
  • Experience leading and managing large scale projects, including working effectively with a diverse spectrum of both internal and external stakeholders.

BONUS SKILLS

  • Multi-cultural; multi-lingual; cross cultural competencies and skills an asset
  • Experience working with or inside a municipal agency with a specific focus on infrastructure economic, and/or workforce development.
  • Familiarity with the storm water rate reduction incentive program, policies, and regulations.
  • MBA or similar degree with significant coursework in finance or economics.
  • Politically savvy and experienced in partnership development (partners, community, government).

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with the Conservancy's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
