The Executive Director leads and manages the operations of the organization as an influential leader and strategist. Sets the vision and direction of the organization with input from the board. Engages the board of directors to carry out the vision and strategic direction of the organization. Identifies specific desired results/outcomes for the year and works with staff and committees to achieve outcomes; communicates goals and direction with clear expectations for achievement.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The CMA Executive Director is responsible for executing the strategic direction of the organization which includes, leading donor engagement activities, providing overall leadership and management of the staff, events and committees. 

Works with the board of directors and various committees to program and present a variety of musical performances in the Des Moines area.  The Executive Director promotes CMA within the community, connects with corporate and individual donors and season ticket holders.

Contracts performances with agents, artists and musical groups; works with vendors, venues and volunteers to host and execute live performances.

Raises money through grant writing, sponsorships, donations, and endowments. 

Carry out strategic initiatives identified by the board such as education program development and oversight.

Manages the Belin Quartet and coordinates the schedule for the summer concert series.

Educational Background: 
Bachelors degree in Nonprofit Management, Music or Performing Arts
Skills/Experience: 

The perfect candidate will have a passion for music, will bring innovative programming ideas to the table, will have a network of music lovers, supporters and donors within the community.

Has experience programming, coordinating, managing and executing successful community-based programs and events.  Event production experience a plus.

Has run successful and fruitful fundraising campaigns.

Knows how to run a business and is fiscally minded.  Can demonstrate the ability to create and manage a budget.

Has the ability to engage the intended audience through excellent writing and dynamic communication that shows passion and enthusiasm for music and the arts.

Is a strategic influential leader who has the ability to take CMA to the next level.

The successful candidate will be a leader, a collaborator, an implementer, an idea generator, an influencer; will have strong problem solving, decision making and communication skills.

Compensation/Benefits: 

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. Salary range is $65,000 - $80,000 annually.  Benefits package includes health and dental insurance, and unlimited PTO.
