The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC), is a statewide membership-based coalition of immigrant, labor, interfaith, youth and ally organizations founded in 2002 to build a unified statewide voice to improve the lives of immigrants and refugees in Colorado and the U.S. CIRC achieves this mission through community organizing and non-partisan civic engagement, public education and advocacy to win fair, humane and workable public policies.
Job Summary
The Director of Organizing and Membership is an experienced staff manager and seasoned organizer who will lead a team with diverse expertise and objectives to accomplish short and long-term organizational goals. We seek a motivated and visionary leader who prioritizes and centers the voices of members who are directly impacted by the policies we are fighting for and who can lead CIRC to the next level of strategic organizing. The ideal candidate has strategic organizing campaign experience, is able to support and build the capacity of our organizing staff, and can support organizing staff to build the leadership capacity of our member organizations. They will have at least five years of grassroots, labor or political organizing experience, and a minimum of five years experience building, leading and managing teams. The Director of Organizing and Membership will help shape our future growth and implement the 2022 Strategic plan.
This position reports to the Executive Director. The Director of Organizing and Membership (DOM) oversees all organizing and membership development, and ensures that CIRC members throughout the state of Colorado have the capacities they desire to lead in their areas and that they are connected to CIRC’s plans and strategies. The DOM supports the organizing team as they move important policy goals chosen by the membership. The DOM leads and manages the organizers who provide the grassroots muscle to win concrete campaign victories and build power in immigrant communities. Work Areas include:
- Membership & Leadership Development: Support regional organizers to build a diverse base of member organizations and individual supporters; and lead the establishment of a leadership development program for different levels of leadership within the movement.
- Strategic Political Action: Understand and translate national, state and local policy into strategic action, community education and organizing. Lead and educate organizers to fully understand the implications of proposed policy changes and to fine-tune our campaigns to organize and engage community members to pass progressive policy change.
- Non-Partisan Voter Engagement: Coordinate with CIRC Action (our C4) and our C3 team to drive year-round policy and election-based campaigns and organizing strategies that focus on voter registration, education and turnout for positive policy change at national, local and statewide levels.
- Coalition Building: Leading strategic partnerships with in-state and national organizations, both immigrant and non-traditional allies, to collaborate and develop campaigns to advance the goals of CIRC and the movement. Support regional organizers with coordination, and overall CIRC efforts to partner effectively with state and local organizations.
The Director of Organizing and Membership will work closely with appropriate members of the CIRC team a C3-compliant and cohesive team of statewide organizers who support local, state, and federal campaigns. The DOM will be part of the supervising team; assisting with fundraising, grant writing and reporting.
Specific Tasks and Duties
- Oversee development and implementation of long- and short-term organizing and outreach goals, strategies and tactics for the organization, in conjunction with campaign teams.
- Oversee the hiring, supervision and training of organizing team staff. Coordinate trainings and other organizational and staff development activities. Facilitate organizing team meetings.
- In conjunction with communications and policy staff, oversee development of organizing materials, issue updates, action alerts, membership materials needed to implement campaigns, in conjunction with communications team.
- Work with coalition partners to build strong relationships and partnerships, and develop and implement strategies at the national, state and regional level.
- Serve as a liaison between Organizing Team and other teams (Communications, Development & Administration).
- Manages grant reports, organizing budget and coordinates with other staff to manage overall budget.

Experience and Accomplishments.
- Minimum 5 years staff management experience with proven track record of leading/building teams and staff supervision.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a grassroots, field, or national organizer or campaigner.
- Proven ability to manage and evaluate projects and budgets with attention to detail from start to finish.
- Extensive knowledge of campaigns, including grassroots organizing strategies and advocacy techniques.
- Experience building a membership program.

- Experience in organizational development and culture change desirable.
- Experience building, training and leading teams.
- Proven ability to work with diverse communities, work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks at once, and adapt to changing situations on a daily basis.
- Ability to work long hours and travel.
- Bilingual English and another language relevant to the immigrant community preferred.
