Conservation Colorado is seeking a Deputy Director based in Denver who will bring vision, smarts, energy, and passion to their work. This position is responsible for providing effective and inspiring leadership inside and outside of Conservation Colorado while managing the day to day goals of the organization. This position will lead development and implementation of organizational and issue campaign strategy and manage the organization’s coordinated campaign work to elect pro-conservation candidates. In addition, this position is responsible for leading a team of high-level senior staff at Conservation Colorado and developing a culture of equity, inclusion, support, high-standards and accountability.

Conservation Colorado works to protect Colorado’s environment and quality of life by mobilizing people and electing conservation‐minded policy makers. We work closely with policy leaders, citizen activists, businesses and other conservation/progressive nonprofits, and have built a reputation as one of the leading conservation advocacy organizations in the state. This coming year we will be engaging in critical work to elect pro-conservation candidates, educate the public and advocate for the protection of Colorado’s rivers, maintain and enhance the protection of our public lands, and increase support for more renewable energy development across the state.

Job Responsibilities
The Deputy Director, who reports to the Executive Director, is responsible for the following:
- Ensuring the organization has strategic and thorough long-term plans in place to achieve its goals;
- Analyzing the policy and political lay of the land to determine opportunities for campaign wins in all of our core issue areas;
- Leveraging organizational power to win on campaigns by influencing high level targets through organizing, communications and use of political capital;
- Supervising Advocacy, Organizing & Political, Operations & Finance, and Communications through close collaboration with staff directors on strategies for effectiveness;
- Building and maintaining strategic relationships with policymakers, nonprofit leaders, industry executives, leading experts, and other constituents;
- Creating a dynamic, highly-efficient work culture that values teamwork and collaboration;
- Ensuring development and implementation of strategies to make the organization more diverse, inclusive and equitable;
- Leading development of political strategy on priority campaigns for the organization;
- Building strong and diverse coalitions in the Colorado conservation community, including non-traditional allies and communities of color;
- Ensuring we are using an equity lens when evaluating policy solutions;
- Managing the organization’s coordinated campaign work to elect pro-conservation candidates.
Qualifications
We’re seeking a strategic thinker & strong leader who is results-focused, highly-driven, possesses outstanding interpersonal communication skills, and is organized and meticulous. You should possess:
- A passion for protecting Colorado’s land, air, water, and people through citizen action;
- A demonstrated ability to maintain grace under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ever changing environment;
- A high value on diversity, equity and inclusivity;
- Experience managing multiple projects and ability to oversee a cadre of staff and consultants;
- Demonstrated ability to conduct high-level political strategy;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with all manner of people including staff, board members, political leaders, allies and more.
- Strong organization skills and high attention to detail.
Spanish/English bilingual is preferred, but not a requirement.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation depends on experience and is highly competitive. Includes health/dental benefits, retirement with match, paid time off program and sabbatical program.
