This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The CEO is responsible for connecting with all YMCA Associations from across the State of Florida to build capacity, impact local communities, carry out the Y mission, speak with a unified voice and establish a strong statewide presence. This position will be responsible for building the organizational capacity of individual YMCAs; building strong networks that provides opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and support; developing the Alliance infrastructure; forming collaborations to advance the strategic goals of the Alliance; and advancing the Alliance’s legislative priorities. The CEO will supervise a staff to help meet these objectives.
This position will provide leadership to the Florida State Alliance of YMCAs, whose purpose is to manage, connect, support and foster state-wide initiatives and programs.
Individual must have an entrepreneurial spirit and ability to take the initiative to assist Alliance leaders in the identification of resources and program opportunities for the Alliance to make a larger impact as a movement vs. individual Ys. Must understand the political climate of Florida and foster relationships within the Y movement as well as with key leaders in the state.
Must maintain an effective communication plan to share updates via newsletter, social media, and in-person interaction. Must have strong administrative and organizational skills to include fiscal management and budgeting, since there is currently no administrative support staff. Must be able to work with a very diverse group of leaders within the movement from small to large size YMCAs ($900K - $66M).
- Manages day-to-day operations of the Alliance.
- Build organizational capacity of Florida Alliance Member Ys through: Strategic Planning, Board Governance, Management Agreements, Shared Services, and Mergers.
- Build strong networks to provide opportunities for training and support for Florida Alliance Member Ys: State Alliance Ys, Training Partner Ys (Tampa), Service Delivery Partner Ys {Central Florida Y, Florida First Coast Y and Suncoast Y), and Y-USA Services.
- Develop Florida Alliance Infrastructure: Florida Alliance Strategic Plan, Fiscal Management, Staff Structure and Development, Annual Goals, and Communication to Florida Y's.
- Form and manage collaborations to advance the strategic goals of the Alliance: Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility Opportunities, Program Development and Management, and Statewide program initiatives such as Youth and Government.
- Advocate and advance the State Alliance legislative priorities: Help set the legislative agenda and track and advocate on Key issues, Target and cultivate relationships w ith key policy makers and elected officials, and Manage contract lobbyist to raise visibility of Alliance Member Y's as valued resources on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
- Ensure the Alliance has a long-range strategy that achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
- Promotes active and broad volunteer participation in Alliance work through local YMCAs.
- Identifies and coordinates strategic statewide initiatives that support and advance the objectives of the Alliance strategic plan and the Y National Movement.
- Provides support to Alliance YMCAs through strategic planning and board development guidance.
- Identifies and secures public and private funding opportunities that support Alliance and/or YMCA Association goals (i.e. chronic disease prevention, education funding, childhood obesity, child care, summer camp, child safety, safety around water etc.) and either pursues or refers funding opportunities to local Ys as appropriate.
- Recruits, trains, supervises and releases all Alliance personnel (interns, staff, and consultants).
- Develops and maintains a budget, operating within the budget guidelines and reports to the Finance and Executive Committees of the Florida Alliance of YMCAs on the same.
- Works closely with the Alliance fiscal agent to ensure that all state and federal requirements are met, documents are properly filed, policies and procedures are in place and reviewed annually.
- Identifies struggling associations in need of intervention support from Y-USA.
- Lead the planning and administration of key conferences for the Alliance, including CEO meetings, State Advocacy Day and Leadership Conference.
- Facilitates the building of organizational capacity of all the state’s Ys and provides opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and support.
- Creates and delivers a plan for sharing statewide community benefit of all Y Associations in the Alliance; implementing targeted communications to advance advocacy and proactive communications of Alliance activities and events.
- Engages in open sharing of information, best practices, opportunities and challenges with other state alliances and YMCA of the USA.
- Identify and participate in strategic alliances and coalitions with like-minded organizations to meet Alliance objectives; connect and align with Y-USA priorities and sharing opportunities; support statewide program initiatives.
- Leads the convening of Y leaders to facilitate the development of statewide program initiatives that allow for impactful change in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
- Identifies and facilitates management agreements, shared service and merger discussions.
- Serves on statewide task forces, coalitions or committees as agreed upon with the Executive Committee of the Alliance and works to get YMCA staff and volunteers assigned to such.
- Leverages collective influence around policy change at the local, state and national levels. Facilitates Alliance Ys speaking with one voice in support of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
- Facilitates building the capacity of Y staff and volunteers to develop relationships with public officials and members of the community.
- Ensures development of annual legislative agenda with input from Public Policy Committee, the Alliance contract lobbyist, Alliance staff members and volunteers.
- Manages the Alliance contract legislative partner ensuring delivery of contract provisions. This includes evaluating their performance annually with input from Alliance members, developing and issuing a RFP where applicable, and communicating and strategizing regularly to ensure accurate representation of Y legislative agenda and positions.
Build Organizational Capacity of Florida Alliance member Ys through:
Have the ability to work effectively with volunteers to drive and implement a strategic roadmap that addresses the needs of the Alliance and communities served. Lead volunteers by aligning committees and their charts of work to support the strategies and goals of the Alliance. Acquire resources in order to implement the strategic plan.

Advocate and advance the State Alliance legislative priorities:
Actively interact and communicate with YMCA CEOs in Florida, political figures, community leaders, lobbyist, and volunteers and be seen as an active and integral member of the YMCA movement with respects to the YMCA mission and vision. Act as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the YMCA within the state and be seen and respected as a leader, with the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards of the values of the YMCA’s heritage.

Fund Development:
Network effectively to ensure the YMCAs are maximizing opportunities for funding and development work at all times. Strategically position the State Alliance to be able to qualify and find alternative funding sources; public, private, governmental, grants, foundations, etc.
- Organizational Leadership certification
- Requires 5 or more years’ experience leading or consulting in corporate environments and/or complex multi-site organizations
- Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time, as needed and assigned by the Board Chair
- Extensive background developing and delivering strategic solutions in core service areas
- Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication and presentation skills

- Must possess a proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with individuals across a broad range of stakeholders

Salary: $135,000.00 - $155,000.00
