The Ground and Maintenance Worker will assist in the maintenance of structures, buildings, roadways, trails, and anything related to the 200-acre sanctuary. This position will conduct a variety of maintenance and grounds keeping tasks including but not limited to: building repair, painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mowing, weed-eating, maintenance to related equipment. Also includes opening and closing facilities to the public.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist in the maintenance of all building and their associate systems under the direction of the maintenance manager
- Assist in the maintenance of mowers, vehicles, tractors, etc.
- Open and close buildings.
- Assist with special events some weekends and evenings.
- Assist as needed with land management practices such as removal of invasive plant species, bush hogging fields, maintaining native plantings and landscaping surrounding structures.
- Assist in general housekeeping duties.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
High School Diploma preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- 2 + years’ experience with building and facilities maintenance, preferably at a large facility, plus
- Must be self-directed, problem-solver with organizational skills and knowledge of grounds keeping, landscaping, facilities/structural maintenance, and trail maintenance.
- Customer service oriented, with ability to interact respectfully with children, adults, and teachers walking the trails.
- Comfort working in the vicinity of livestock and other farm animals.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and ability to recognize hazards and act quickly to rectify.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to transport up to 80 lbs regularly and work outside in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with or without accommodation.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of vehicles and tools, including but not limited to tractors, zero-turn mowers, chainsaw, power equipment, hand tools, phones, copy machines, computers and other related equipment.
- Chain saw certification a plus.
- Ability to do basic research, email and other computing functions.
