The Danville Family YMCA branch has a rich history of over 135 years in a community that has recently built a brand new state of the art facility along the beautiful Dan River in Downtown Danville, Virginia in September 2014.

The Danville Family YMCA is looking for a motivated, energetic wellness professional to lead the wellness and department for our YMCA. The successful candidate will be responsible for overall organization, administration, development, supervision and implementation of wellness for the Y. This individual should be recognized as a leader in fitness, and wellness with members, staff, and the community.

The Danville Family YMCA is a nonprofit organization with the goal of strengthening the foundations of community. We do this through programs that help build a healthy mind, body and spirit for all, and our programs are built around our three focus areas: Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility. Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with a diverse population.  
  • Recruit, train, supervise, develop, schedule and provide leadership for health & wellness staff
  • Proven ability in forecasting, budgeting and financial controls and program management and development
  • Cultivate a member-focused team. Conducts ongoing assessments of staff functions to determine required core competencies & skills. Designs & implements trainings as needed. Develops strategies to motivate staff & achieve goals. 
  • Demonstrates through action & interaction with staff, members & the community, the Y’s Mission & core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility.
  • Actively participates in Annual Giving Campaign and other fundraising efforts.
  • As part of Leadership Team; serves as Director on Duty, attends weekly Leadership meetings, serves on committees (as assigned) & participates in various Y/community events
  • Race Director for Kids Triathlon & Annual 5K/10K & Pancake Breakfast
  • Work closely with other Directors ensuring relationship building, retention & high quality of service for members & the greater community.
  • Develops and nurtures collaborative relationships with community organizations
  • On-going review and evaluation of programs and member’s needs to ensure a diverse offering of classes &                programs.
Educational Background: 
4-year college degree in Health Promotion, Exercise Science or related field preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years working in health, fitness and sports management preferred
  • Current nationally accredited personal training certification preferred
  • Current CPR/1st Aid Certification
  • Strong leadership. interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Supervisory, fiscal management and program development experience
  • Computer proficiency: MS Office applications required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Compensation/Benefits: 

$30,000.00 - $33,000.00
