The Manager, Alumni Talent (M, AT) plays a critical role in the career acceleration of rising and current alumni who are interested in Social Sector Leadership, Community Leadership, and Public Leadership roles across Dallas-Fort Worth. The M, AT is responsible for ensuring alumni are ready to lead in entry and mid-level roles across these sectors, and successfully matching them to those opportunities. The M, AT does this by curating a suite of career acceleration resources (resume support, interview guides, policy memo templates), facilitating workshops and events for small group coaching and networking, and proactively meeting with alumni one-on-one to understand their career aspirations and provide tailored support. The M, AT will also steward relationships across education nonprofits and other partner organizations in the area for talent matching purposes.

The M, AT will report to the Director, Community and Innovation Leadership, and will work closely with the Director to source alumni talent for mid and senior level positions as needed, and to create an arc of programming for alumni to move to and through pathway programming as their leadership capacity develops and grows.
 
The M, AT should enjoy building relationships with others, and be able to match resources and opportunities to the needs and requests of others. They must also be able to work on many different projects at once and thrive in a flexible, ever-changing environment. The M, AT will have had introductory experience in talent management, coaching and developing others, planning events, and have a demonstrated ability to manage many small details.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage all aspects of talent matching & career coaching for alumni looking for their next opportunity locally or nationally in entry and mid-level positions in Social Sector Leadership, Community Leadership, and Public Leadership
  • Proactively arrange and execute 1:1 meetings with alumni and provide tailored talent matching assistance based on their career aspirations
  • Lead professionalism and networking trainings for alumni focused on best practices in career acceleration
  • Meet with local organizations to partner on reaching their talent needs with alumni
  • Develop partnerships with local mission-aligned organizations for talent matching purposes
  • Develop a key set of internal reports, analytics, resources and systems that help alumni with advancement opportunities throughout DFW
  • Develop, maintain, and market a comprehensive list of opportunities in Social Sector, Community, and Public Leadership pathways to be regularly communicated to alumni via social media and the alumni newsletter
  • Influence alumni to enter into entry-level leadership capacity development programs with both TFA and mission-aligned partner organizations
  • Plan and execute small to medium size events, in partnership with partner organizations, to increase community and public leadership engagement
  • Create a vision for, plan, and execute a series of networking nights to introduce rising and current alumni to each other and partner organizations also working in each pathway
  • Engage in collective core responsibilities of team, regional, and organizational work including but not limited to selecting and matriculating corps members, staffing activities and events, participating in retreats, conferences, team meetings, and other professional development opportunities 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • TFA Corps experience preferred, but not required

  • Strong understanding of best practices in career acceleration (resume support, interview expertise, etc.)
  • Strong written communication skills for telling the story of impact and communicating regularly with stakeholders
  • Skills analyzing data to make decisions and connect alumni to opportunities
  • Ability to make smart choices about what to prioritize and what matters most over a quarter, a month, and a week
  • Ability to project plan for 6-18 months, while taking into account stakeholder schedules and roles, and hiring timelines based on industry
  • Ability to engage in difficult conversations and coach alumni who are unsure of their career aspirations
  • Eagerness to reflect and proactively work to grow and improve
  • Eagerness to engage in personal development around diversity, equity, and inclusiveness

Work Demands

  • Some evenings and weekends required
  • Can travel to partner org sites and alumni meetings across the DFW metroplex
  • Desire to work on project based work with periods of work requiring lots of individual contribution and other periods of work requiring lots of team collaboration
